Starter Todd Redmond went 7 1/3 innings, giving up only one run on four hits while striking out nine as the Gwinnett Braves defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 2-1 on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.

 

Gwinnett (54-58) is now 15 ½ games behind Durham in the International League South and remain seven games behind Louisville for the wild card.

 

Redmond threw a season-high 122 pitches before being relieved with one out in the eighth inning. Closer Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 16th save of the year.

 

Gwinnett second baseman Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 on the night, driving in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Left fielder Wilkin Ramierz drove in the other run for Gwinnett.

 

Gwinnett will face Lehigh Valley in game three of a four-game series at 5:35 p.m. today.
