The North Georgia IronDawgs weightlifting team won the Raw Full Power team trophy last weekend at the Southern Powerlifting Federation National Championships in Nashville, Tenn.
Along the way to winning the title, several local members of the team set a number of Georgia and world records.
From Gainesville, Clint Cochran, Trish Evans, Jance Footit, Tim Moon, Dwon Johnson and C.J. Allen all placed in the top three in their individual events and five of the six broke a record.
In the 259-pound Men’s Open Single Ply Bench Only, Tim Moon placed first and set a world record with a lift of 605 pounds.
Johnson, in the SHW Sub Master, had a squat lift of 730 pounds, a bench press of 375 pounds, and a dead lift of 650 pounds, to compile a first-place total lift of 1,755 pounds and set a world record.
Also setting a world record was Allen in the 242-pound Men’s Juniors with a first-place total lift of 1,375 pounds.
With a total lift of 1,370 pounds, Footit placed first and set a Georgia record in the 220-pound Men’s Open.
Evans placed second in the 148-pound Women’s Open with a total lift of 805 pounds and also set a Georgia state record.
Cochran, in the 198-pound Men’s Open, placed third with a total lift of 990 pounds.
Team members from Jefferson competing in the event were Matt Rawlins, Chris Lower and Cleve Tatum.
Lower won the 259-pound Men’s Teens 18-19 class with a squat lift of 730 pounds, a bench press of 400 pounds, and a dead lift of 600 pounds, to give him a world-record total of 1,730 pounds.
Rawlins took first place, and broke a Georgia record, in the 259-pound Men’s Open with a total lift of 1,375 pounds.
Tatum won the SHW Men’s Bench Only with a lift of 500 pounds.
The IronDawgs will try to repeat as American Powerlifting Committee National Champions at the APC Meet, which begins Friday at the Moose Lodge in Bogart.
