East Hall senior Jasmine Jenkins will compete in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk and 3-point Championship at 8 p.m. March 30 at the Alario Center in New Orleans.
Jenkins, who led the Lady Vikings to a region championship and a trip to the second round in the Class AA state playoffs, will compete in the 3-point portion of the event.
East Hall is formally presenting her with an honorary jersey at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the high school.
The competition will be televised at 4:30 p.m. April 1 on CBS.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: After a 5-4 loss to Oconee County ended a seven-game winning streak for North Hall, the Trojans look to get back into the win column with three games this week. They play at Stephens County today before playing two home games, Wednesday against Franklin County and Friday against Lanier.
The Trojans currently hold the lead in Region 8-AAA North.
Flowery Branch also dropped a region game, 10-2 to Loganville on Friday, but has a home-and-home against Habersham Central on Monday and Wednesday this week. The Falcons also travel to Cedar Shoals on Friday.
Gainesville, which is still undefeated and ranked No. 2 in Class AAA, hosts Monroe Area on Wednesday and plays at Stephens County on Friday.
HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: The Gainesville girls and boys soccer teams, which have both been riding a successful stretch, start the week out tonight at Oconee County before hosting North Hall at City Park Stadium on Wednesday.
The Flowery Branch girls team, which picked up its first loss of the season last Friday, looks to rebound against Habersham Central on Tuesday. Flowery Branch travels to Apalachee on Friday.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Gainesville and Habersham Central will compete in the Big Red Shootout, which takes place today at Chattahoochee Golf Club. Johns Creek won the event a year ago. Gainesville finished tied for third.
Commerce, Jefferson, Jackson County and East Jackson will take part in the Jackson County Championship Tuesday and Wednesday at Double Oaks.
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Lakeview Academy has matches today and Tuesday against Towns County and North Hall, respectively. Flowery Branch, whose girls team is currently ranked No. 4 in the state, plays at Clarke Central on Tuesday, at home against Johns Creek on Wednesday, at Apalachee on Thursday and at home against Johnson on Saturday.
HIGH SCHOOL TRACK: Gainesville competes at Johnson on Tuesday, while Chestatee travels to White County on Thursday. Johnson will square off at Flowery Branch on Friday.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL: The men’s NCAA tournament Final Four will be played Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Kentucky faces in-state rival Louisville in one semifinal, while Ohio State will face Kansas in the other.
On the women’s side, the national semifinals will be played on Sunday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
