It took a couple of weeks to figure it out, but the Georgia IronDawgs, headquartered in Gainesville, had quite a showing in the recent America’s Cup Powerlifting Meet in Kennesaw.

Jason Banks of Canton won Best Lifter in Push/Pull while Eric Head, a Lumpkin County alumnus living in Suwanee,  won Best Lifter in the Bench Press and the Georgia IronDawgs won the Full Power Team Award.

Banks took first place in the sub-masters/open in the Raw 275.58-pound weight class with some national records in the category. He had a bench press of 407.85 pounds; deadlift of 628.31 pounds and total of  1,036.16 pounds . Head lifted a world record 413.36 pounds to win the Open Raw Bench Only category in the 132.28-pund weight class.

The ’Dawgs also got first places from their other entries and had other record-setting performances on the day.

A computer programming problem and a huge turnout prevented the organizers from giving out the awards the night of the meet.
