Local sports briefs: Former Texas LB signs with Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons signed free agent linebacker Rashad Bobino on Wednesday.

Bobino, 5-11, 230-pounds, joins the Falcons after participating as a tryout player at the Falcons mini-camp last weekend.

Bobino was a four-year letterman at the University of Texas, where he started 45 of 52 career games and registered 235 tackles (148 solo), 25 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

He was a three-time All-Big 12 selection and helped the Longhorns lead the conference in scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense in 2008.

That season, he started 13 games and had 39 tackles, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery.

Four games added to G-Braves TV schedule

The Gwinnett Braves added four games to their 2009 TV broadcast schedule with Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (Charter channel 37).

The Braves’ June 15 game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, their July 5 and July 21 games against Norfolk and their August 11 game against Durham will all air at 7 p.m. on CSS.

The four added games complete the minimum of 25 games broadcast by CSS as part of a four-year exclusive television partnership.
