Local golf: Darden gets 10K for hole-in-one

John Darden shot a hole-in-one to earn $10,000 at the Rotary Club of Gainesville Tom Paris Senior Golf Tournament on Thursday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Darden, an original developer of the golf course and member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, earned the shot on No. 17 from 172 yards.

Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a two best ball, aggregated net points game Wednesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Leroy Harper, Nigel Jones, J. B. Johnston and Johnny Little. Second place went to the team of Warren Jahn, Doug Van, Jim Hesser and Glynn Rogers. Third place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Roy Lyle, Don Wells and Lee Bowers. Fourth place ended in a tie between the team of Jim Hollobaugh, Eddie Johnson, George Clegg and Tony Denote and the team of A.J. Kiker, Ben Brooks, Dave Gleason and John T. Smith. Sixth place went to the team of Buzz Hansen, Jere Cochran, Rolf Legband and Greg Taira.

Closest to the pin winners were Gene Weschler (No. 3, hole-in-one), Wells (No. 5), Denny Momper (No. 12) and Leroy Harper (No. 17).

Wednesday Dogfight: The Wednesday Dogfight golf group played this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Gayle Gibson, Terry Clegg and Mike Tilson. Second place ended in a tie between the team of Greg Lee, Geoff Archibald and C. Seymour and the team of Jim Arendt, Chris Porter and Mark Black.

Gibson finished first individually, followed by Black, Lee and Dan Arthurs.

Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a two-person team best ball event Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Mona White and Jewell Floyd.

Second place went to the team of Paula Pilgrim and Nora Gleason.

Closest to the pin winners were Ann White (No. 3) and Sissy Lawson (No. 17).
