Local athletes shine at track meet

The Lanier Running Club and Hall County were well represented at the United States Amateur Track and Field 2010 Georgia Association Junior Olympics Championships last weekend at Westlake High.

Erika Rucker repeated as state champion in the Young Women’s Division 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 54.27 seconds. Also winning a state championship was Kiara McCue-Woods in the Young Women’s Division 3,000-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 44.60 seconds.

RaJeanna Jarrett won a silver medal in the Young Women’s triple jump with a leap of 11.02 meters while Rucker collected a silver in the Young Women’s 800-meter with a time of 2:22.28. Kenny Slavik also won a silver medal by running the Young Men’s 5,000-meter run in 16:37.51. Ansley Lawson ran the Young Women’s 3,000-meter in 11:28.40, which was good enough for a silver and Sarah Hayes also took home a silver with a Youth Girls pole vault of 6 feet, 6.75 inches.

Three athletes won bronze medals: Jarret with a Young Women’s long jump of 17-10; Emmanuel Ibarra with a 1,500-meter run time of 4:18.64 and Sarah Hayes with an accumulated 2,271 points in the Youth Girls pentathlon.

Hayes advanced to the Region 3 championships in four of her five events: pentathlon, pole vault, 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter.
