Members of the Hall County 4-H Horse Club recently competed at the State 4-H show in Perry. The state show was a qualifier for the 4-H Southern Regional Horse Show next week in Clemson, S.C., and six Hall County club members qualified for the event.
To make the regional cut, participants had to place within the top five of their division at the state show.
In the Junior Division, Mae Musselwhite, Virginia Wells and Courtney Woodard earned top-five finishes or better.
Musselwhite placed first in western pleasure and second in western showmanship.
Wells (jumping, fourth place) and Woodard (English showmanship, second; western pleasure, third; place barrel racing, fourth; place horsemanship, fourth) are also headed to Clemson.
Woodard finished fourth overall in the Junior Western Division.
Lauren Horne (trail, fourth), Emily Linto (place barrel racing, fifth) and Haley Woodard (place barrel racing, first; place arena race, first; place English showmanship, second; essay contest, fifth, public speaking demonstration, second) qualified for region in the Senior Division.
The 4-H Southern Regional Horse Show consists of 13 states extending from Florida to Virginia and along the southern states extending over to Oklahoma. In addition to riding classes, the show will host competitions in hippology, horse judging, quiz bowl, public speaking and public demonstraions.
