Jefferson wins Dizzy Dean state title

The Jefferson 13-year-old All-Stars won the Dizzy Dean baseball state tournament with a 17-2 win against Druid Hills on Tuesday at the Jefferson Recreation Complex. The state title marks Jefferson’s first since 2002.

In the finals, Jefferson jumped to a big lead with 10 runs in the first two innings. Andy Nicolaus and Satchel Turpin each finished with three hits in the championship game.

Chandler Thompson earned the win for the Dragons in the championship game. Robert Hayes and Jace McColskey provided scoreless relief for Jefferson.

With the win, Jefferson travels to the Dizzy Dean World Series on July 24 in Southhaven, Miss.
