Spencer Haywood scored 16 points to lead last-place Lambert to a 60-59 upset of Gainesville on Thursday in Suwanee.

A.J. Johnson scored 19 points and Blake Sims added 15 for Gainesville (14-9, 9-3 Region 7B-AAA).

Lambert (6-16, 2-9) visits Johnson at 7:30 tonight. Gainesville, which won the subregion last Tuesday, opens the region tournament with a home game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 52, LAMBERT 34: Jaymee Carnes scored 12 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Lady Red Elephants to a win Thursday in Suwanee.

Rebecca Webster scored 10 points and Loren Thomas had nine points and six assists for Gainesville (14-10, 10-2 Region 7B-AAA), which opens the region tournament at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Tennis

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 3, DACULA 2: The Lady Falcons received wins from Elizabeth Mallory and Morgan Reed in singles play on Thursday in Flowery Branch. The doubles team of Molly Smith and Nicki Price also won for the Falcons. Flowery Branch visits Lambert next Thursday.

JOHNSON BOYS 5, JACKSON COUNTY 0: Scott Allan, William Anthony and Casey Tanner each won in straight sets to sweep the singles matches and lead Johnson to a win Thursday.

The teams of Kibry Craft and Oscar Rivera and Drew Jones and Parker McDonald won in doubles.

Johnson visits Lambert at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 5, JACKSON COUNTY 0: Cady Nix, Kamy Field and Maggie Turner each won in straight sets as did doubles’ teams of Harlee Robson/Claire Crain and Lauren Houston/Carlyn Ivey to give the Lady Knights a 5-0 win against Jackson County
on Thursday.

WEST HALL BOYS 4, NORTH FORSYTH 1: Jimmy Kincaid and Max Wilson earned straight set wins in their singles matches to lead the Spartans to a win Thursday at Bobby Bailey Tennis Center.

The doubles teams of Tyler Burgamy/Stephen Backus and Andrew Johnson/Tatum Scroggs also earned straight set wins for West Hall.

The Spartans return to action Tuesday at Gainesville.
