Three Jackson County High football players were named to the All-Region team in 8-AAA when the list was released this week. Lineman Ben Brown, a junior, senior linebacker Ryan Howe and running back/linebacker Rob Williams were the players to make the cut for the Panthers (4-6).

The three were integral pieces in Jackson County’s most successful season of late, helping the team start the season with three consecutive victories and won their first region game since 2006 against Stephens County in the final game of the season.

Jackson County’s John Holton, a tight end/defensive tackle was named an honorable mention.

Eastside High running back Git Aiken is the Region 8-AAA Player of the Year.

The Eagles face Carrollton in the second round of the Class AAA state playoffs Friday.

Franklin County coach Tommy Welch and Elbert County’s Brent Miller split the honors for Coach of the Year. Both teams reached the Class AAA state playoffs but were eliminated in the first round. Elbert County lost to Dunwoody, while Franklin County was eliminated by St. Pius X.
