Gainesville, the No. 1 seed in Region 8-AAA, defeated Flowery Branch 68-47 and secured a spot in the state playoffs on Tuesday at Apalachee High in Winder.
Shaquan Cantrell led the Red Elephants (17-9) with 17 points, Luke Moore scored 13, and Deshaun Watson added nine.
Gainesville will play the winner of tonight’s Cedar Shoals/Apalachee game in the 8-AAAAA semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Winder.
Flowery Branch finishes the season with a record of 9-18 overall.
Region 7-AAA Tournament
Tyler Dominy led the Tigers to a guaranteed spot in the Class AAA state tournament, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 42-30 win against White County on Tuesday at Buford High.
Jonathan Sanderson added eight points for Dawson County (21-5), and Camron Chester had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Tigers will play Buford in the 7-AAA semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday at North Hall.
Eddie Hurst led the Warriors with 10 points. White County finishes the season with a record of 10-16 overall.
EAST HALL BOYS 68, WEST HALL 58: The Vikings clinched a state berth with the win on Tuesday at North Hall.
Brian Edwards led East Hall (12-14) with 16 points. For West Hall, Hunter Atkinson scored 17 points.
The Vikings advance to face North Hall at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Gainesville. West Hall finishes the season with a record of 11-15 overall.
Region 8-AA Tournament
Jefferson’s boys team secured a trip to the state tournament with a 74-45 win over Oglethorpe County on Tuesday at Greene County High in Greensboro.
Satchel Turpin led the Dragons (17-9) with 18 points, and Willie Taylor added 10.
Jefferson faces the winner of tonight’s Rabun County/Riverside Military game in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Greensboro.
Region 8-A Tournament
The Lakeview Academy boys team fell to Hebron Christian 60-56 on Tuesday at Towns County High in Hiawassee.
Austin Montgomery led the Lions (18-7) with 26 points and Joel Larsen added 10.
The Lions shot at the state tournament will be decided by the Class A power ratings to be released Tuesday.
Lakeview Academy went into Tuesday night’s game ranked 13th. The top-16 teams in Class A will advance to the state playoffs.
