Times and dates will vary depending on makeup dates from expected winter weather.
With a winter storm bearing down on Northeast Georgia, officials postponed region basketball tournament games scheduled for Tuesday and today in Hall County and nearby counties.
Teams in Regions 8-A, 7-AAA, 8-AAAA and 8-AAAAA must now take a wait-and-see approach to the winter weather before they will know when they can begin or resume region tournament play.
The storm could be a “catastrophic event” reaching “historical proportions,” the National Weather Service said in its warnings. Forecasters cited potentially crippling snow and ice accumulations, and they expected widespread power outages that could last for days.
Most regions, however, have not yet cancelled play for Thursday.
The Georgia High School Association has already postponed the start of the state basketball tournament one day to Wednesday, Feb. 19 for girls and Thursday, Feb. 20 for boys.
The revision was designed to allow areas affected by the inclement weather additional time to complete region tournaments.
Region tournaments can now be completed as late as Monday.
Most regions have contingency plans in place that will allow them to play Friday, Saturday and Monday. Regions also now have the option to schedule two games in a single day with at least a four-hour break in between contests, if necessary.
