Prep scoreboard: Miller leads Vikings to near upset

The Vikings fell one run shy of an upset on Tuesday, falling Class AAA’s No. 8 ranked Stephens County 7-6 in Toccoa.

Zeb Miller led East Hall at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Tracy Gardner went 1-for-3 with a home run and Chris Cornett went 2-for-4.

Miller also excelled on the mound, striking out nine and allowing only one run in five innings pitched.

The Vikings travel to Pickens to open region play at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Oconee County 11, Jefferson 10 (Monday, Eight innings)

Jefferson forced extra innings with a late rally, but was unable to complete the comeback win against Oconee County on Monday night at UGA’s Foley Field in Athens.

Down five runs in the top of the seventh inning, Blaine Skaggs and Anthony Dowker each batted in a run to move the Dragons (1-3) within three runs. Later in the inning, Jake Fields hit a three-run home run for Jefferson to tie the game.

The Dragons scored in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead, but gave up two runs to the Warriors in the bottom of the inning for the loss.

Fields led Jefferson at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Chris Beck went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Tyler Hill went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.

Adam Frasier went 5-for-5 with a triple for Oconee County.

Derek Vandcore picked up the win for the Warriors, striking out nine batters and allowing only three hits in six innings of pitching. Skaggs was the losing pitcher for the Dragons.

Jefferson travels to Social Circle at 7 p.m. Friday.

TENNIS

North Hall girls 5, Chestatee 0

Class AAA’s No. 6 ranked Lady Trojans extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a win against Chestatee on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Cara Reece, Hayley Crowder and Mary Beth Brown each won singles matches in straight sets for North Hall.

The teams of Lauren Bolton/Courtney Wiley and Jessica Butts/Rachael Langman each won doubles matches completing the sweep for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall plays host to Lumpkin County at 4 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall boys 5, Chestatee 0

Jim Butts, Eli LoCicero and Clayton Nedza each won singles matches for the Trojans in their win over Chestatee on Tuesday in Gainesville.

The teams of Mitch McCray/Mikey Franze and Jack Hortenstine/Joe Nedza each won in doubles for North Hall.

The Trojans (4-3, 4-1 Region 7-AAA) travel to Buford at 4 p.m. today.

West Hall boys 3, Johnson 2

The Spartans defeated Johnson with two wins in doubles matches from the teams of Derek Weatherly/Ricky Vital and Kyle Weatherly/Jimmy Kincaid on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Alan Clark had the lone singles for West Hall (6-1, 4-1 Region 7S-AAA)

The Knights (5-2, 3-2 Region 7S-AAA) had two singles wins in straight sets from Seth Hester and Brandon Sloan.

West Hall travels to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Thursday. Johnson plays host to Pickens at 4 p.m. Thursday

West Hall girls 5, Johnson 0

Kacie Smith, Kaylin Walters and Chelsea Britt each won singles matches for West Hall in a shutout win over Johnson on Tuesday in Oakwood.

In doubles, the teams of Alex Wright/Ali Parham and Samantha Lingle/Kayla Cansler each won to complete the sweep for the Lady Spartans (5-2).

West Hall travels to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Thursday. Johnson plays host to Pickens at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Gainesville boys 5, Flowery Branch 0

Ryan Joiner, Andreo Belch and James Wassel each won singles matches in straight sets for the Red Elephants in their win over Flowery Branch on Tuesday night at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

In doubles, the teams of Louis Hokayem/Graham Williams and Robbie Bilbrough/Drew Denning each won to complete the sweep for Gainesville.

The Red Elephants play host to West Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Falcons travel to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Flowery Branch girls 3, Gainesville 2

Megan Grewett and Nicki Price each won singles matches for the Falcons in their win over Gainesville on Tuesday at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

The win by the doubles team of Morgan Reed and Ane Hoff Magnussoen clinched the win for Flowery Branch (1-3).

Singles player Stephanie Olson and the doubles team of Darby Jackson and Elizabeth Hood were winners for the Red Elephants.

The Falcons travel to Pickens at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Gainesville plays host to West Hall Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday.

SOCCER

White County girls 1, Lumpkin County 0

White County’s Kat Sheridan scored the lone goal of the game off a corner kick from Krista Spear to defeat Lumpkin County on Tuesday night in Dahlonega.

Megan Runkle recorded the shutout with eight saves in goal for the Lady Warriors (3-4).

White County travels to North Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Indians (3-4, 1-2 Region 7-AAA) travel to Gainesville at 5 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 6, Hart County 0

The Vikings took an early lead and never looked back, scoring all six goals in the first half of their win over Hart County on Tuesday night in Hartwell.

Victor Caramillo and Nikko Andrade each scored twice for East Hall (7-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAA). Valentin Villa and Rudy Martinez also contributed with one goal each.

Ricardo Llamas and Osmel Funes combined for the shutout in goal.

The Vikings travel to Lamar County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall girls 13, Gilmer 0

Nine different Lady Trojans scored in a blowout win over Gilmer on Tuesday night in Ellijay.

Sarah Carlton led No. 6 ranked North Hall (5-0-1, 3-0, 7-AAA) with two goals and four assists. Bradee Burrell had three goals and one assist and Laura Lane had two goals for North Hall.

The Lady Trojans also had goals from Allie Southers, Ashley Lackey, Julia Matthews, Elizabeth Williams, Allie Wright and Heather Strickland.

North Hall has combined for 21 goals in their past two games. They play host to White County at 7 p.m. Thursday.
