The Lady Trojans undefeated season came to an end Monday night, as North Hall lost to Class AA/A second-ranked Walker 5-0.
Walker’s Hailey Schwartz scored seven minutes into the game and the Wolverines never looked back. Two minutes after Schwartz’s goal, Paige Himebaugh intercepted a pass back to North Hall goalie Mary Mancin and scored to give Walker a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines added three more goals in the first half.
North Hall (10-1-1, 8-0 Area 7-AAA) prevented Walker from scoring any more goals in the second half by limiting the Wolverines to just three shots on goal.
North Hall plays host to Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The winner will take over sole possession of first place in Area 7-AAA.
Chestatee boys 7, West Forsyth 0
David Gijon had his first career hat trick to lead the War Eagles past visiting West Forsyth on Monday.
Gijon’s scored his first goal on a rebound off a corner kick two minutes into the game. After goals from Zach Mill and Alejandro Gonzalez, Gijon connected on his second goal of the night with 10 minutes to go in the first half. His third and final goal came in the second half.
Christian Lozano and Clemente Medina also scored for Chestatee (7-6, 4-3 Area 7-AAA).
Chestatee plays Johnson at 7:30 tonight.
Baseball
Johnson 5, North Hall 4
Will Rowlett struck out seven and gave up two earned runs in six innings on the mound as Johnson defeated North Hall on Monday night at Jody Davis Field.
Rowlett also had a strong game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. David Jones led the Knights (5-8, 2-7 Region 7-AAA) going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Bradley Stevenson also scored two runs for Johnson.
Bobby Wirsing picked up the save for the Knights.
Taylor Daniels went 3-for-5 with two doubles to lead North Hall (8-4, 5-3).
Johnson plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. North Hall visists Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Gainesville 13, West Hall 0
Zach Bennett gave up one hit and struck out nine batters in five innings on the mound as the Red Elephants shut out West Hall on Monday at Ivey Watson Park.
Bennett also went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Charlie Newman went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Gainesville (9-4, 8-1 Region 7-AAA), which has won seven games in a row.
The Red Elephants will try to make it eight games in a row when they travel to Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will take sole possession of first place in the region.
Flowery Branch 6, West Forsyth 5
Brad Stone hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Falcons past West Forsyth on Monday night.
Nathan Busby picked up the win for the Falcons (11-2, 7-2 Region 7-AAA), giving up only one hit in two innings of relief.
Leading the Falcons at the plate were Cody Aekerman, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Travis Coxworth, who hit two triples.
Flowery Branch plays host to North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Golf
Johnson boys 152, Lumpkin County 169
Grant Cagle fired a team-low 35 to lead the Knights past Lumpkin County on Monday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.
Michael Dunham and Ben Brisbo each carded 38s and Kevin Bohn shot a 41 for the Knights, who improved their record to 10-1 with the win.
Lumpkin County was led by Aaron George’s 37 and Evrit Huntsinger, who shot a 41.
Johnson plays host to East Hall at 4 p.m. today.
Tennis
Gainesville boys 5, West Forsyth 0
James Wassel, Ryan Joiner and Andreo Belch each won in straight sets as Gainesville swept West Forsyth on Monday.
The doubles teams of Louis Hokayem/Graham Williams and Corey McDonald/Whit Carmon also won in straight sets for the Red Elephants.
Gainesville plays host to North Hall 4 p.m. today at Longwood Park.
Johnson boys 4, North Forsyth 1
No. 2 singles player Brandon Sloan won 6-3, 6-1 and No. 3 singles player Bill Hulsey won 6-0, 6-1 to lead Johnson past Class AAAAA North Forsyth on Monday.
The doubles teams of T.J. Williams/Stephen Hester and William Anthony/Scott Allan also won for the Knights (12-4).
Johnson visits Lakeview Academy at 4 p.m. today.
