Prep scoreboard: Gainesville takes first place

The Gainesville High baseball team jumped to first place in Region 7-AAA with a 15-4 win against Gilmer on Wednesday night in Ellijay.

Robby Hefflinger picked up the win for the Red Elephants (10-4, 9-1 Region 7-AAA) with 13 strikeouts on the mound in six innings work.

Zach Bennett was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs for the Red Elephants. Charlie Newman was 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs and Blaine Martin was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Gainesville.

Gainesville plays host to Pickens at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Ivey-Watson Field.

West Hall 15, East Hall 14

After a game tying-triple by West Hall’s Scott Eichler in the seventh inning, Matt Boone connected on a single to score Eichler and edge East Hall on Wednesday night in Oakwood.

Eichler finished the night 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs. Josh Preston also contributed for the Spartans (5-9, 4-6 Region 7-AAA), going 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and four RBIs. Chan Morris was 1-for-2 with three runs and Luis Delgado was 3-for-4 with three runs while recording the win on the mound for West Hall.

Tracey Gardner was 4-for-5 with a double, four runs and three RBIs for the Vikings (4-10, 3-7). Ken Wise had two doubles, five runs and two RBIs for East Hall.

West Hall visits White County at 5:30 p.m. Monday. East Hall plays host to Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Lumpkin County 14, Johnson 3

The Indians had a 12-run, eight-hit sixth inning capped off with a grand slam by James Davis to defeat Johnson on Wednesday night in Oakwood.

Davis finished 2-for-3 on the night with four RBIs. Chad Fulton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs including a two-run single for Lumpkin County (8-5, 6-4 Region 7-AAA). Devin Dunson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Indians.

Lumpkin County had a hit from each hitter in the lineup.

Lumpkin County plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:45 p.m. Monday. Johnson (5-8, 2-8 Region 7-AAA) visits Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Jefferson 12, Towns County 0

The Dragons remained undefeated in Region 8-A with a four-inning win against Towns County on Wednesday night in Jefferson.

Blaine Skaggs led Jefferson (7-3, 7-0 Region 7-AAA) with two home runs and three RBIs. Chris Beck had a home run, double and three RBIs for the Dragons. Jake Fields was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Chris Swancey picked up the win for Jefferson, allowing only one hit in a four-inning, complete game appearance.

Jefferson visits Camden County at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Kingsland.

Banks County 4, Rabun County 0

Alex Gailey pitched a complete game for the Leopards with 11 strikeouts on the mound and only allowed three hits on Wednesday night in Tiger.

Tyler Hulsey led Banks County (9-5, 6-2 Region 8-AA) with two home runs, a double and four RBIs.

Banks County plays host to East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. today.

TENNIS

North Hall girls 5, Johnson 0

Class AAA’s second ranked Lady Trojans recorded their 12th shutout of the season and remained undefeated with a win against Johnson on Wednesday in Gainesville.

Cara Reece, Hayley Crowder and Jessica Butts each won singles matches for the North Hall (16-0, 10-0 Region 7N-AAA) in straight sets.

The Lady Trojans finished the sweep in doubles with wins from Lauren Bolton/Courtney Wiley and Butts/Rachel Langman also in straight sets.

North Hall visits West Hall at 4 p.m. Monday, April 14. Johnson’s regular season is now complete.

Gainesville boys 4, Buford 1

James Wassel, Andreo Belch and Ryan Joiner each won singles matches for Class AAA’s No. 3 ranked Red Elephants in their win against Buford on Wednesday at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

Robbie Bilbrough/Corey McDonald won for Gainesville (12-1, 9-1 Region 7-AAA) at No. 2 doubles. Ben Hunter/Ryan Speed won for Buford (12-5, 2-2 Region 8-AA) at No. 1 doubles.

Gainesville plays host to St. Francis at 4 p.m. today. Buford’s season is now complete.

West Hall girls 4, St. Francis 1

Kacie Smith and Kaylin Walters each won singles matches for the Lady Spartans in their win against St. Francis on Wednesday night in Alpharetta.

West Hall swept in doubles with wins from Alex Wright/Ali Parham and Samantha Lingle/Kayla Cansler.

St. Francis’ only win was in a forfeited match.

West Hall plays host to North Hall 4 p.m. Monday, April 14.

St. Francis 3, West Hall 2

Luis Flores was the lone singles winner for West Hall (10-4, 8-3 Region 7S-AAA) while Kyle Weatherly/Ricky Vital won a doubles match for the Spartans on Wednesday in Alpharetta.

West Hall visits North Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Johnson boys 5, North Hall 0

Seth Hester, Brandon Sloan and Billy Hulsey each won singles matches in straight sets for the Knights on Wednesday in Gainesville.

In doubles, the teams of Stephen Hester/T.J.Williams and William Anthony/Scott Allan also won in straight sets to complete the sweep for Johnson (13-4, 8-2 Region 7S-AAA).

Johnson visits Lakeview at 4 p.m. today. North Hall (9-6, 9-1 Region 7N-AAA) plays host to West Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Chestatee boys 3, Lumpkin County 2

Brandon Camp, Read Langhenry and Adam Yates each won singles matches for the War Eagles in their win against Lumpkin County on Wednesday night in Dahlonega.

Chestatee visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. today. Lumpkin County plays host to East Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Lumpkin County boys 4, West Forsyth 0

Johnny Martinez, Victor Guerrero, Arlin Zajmi and Andrew Prince each scored for the Indians in their win against West Forsyth on Wednesday night in Dahlonega.

Ben Garner recorded the shutout in goal for Lumpkin County (9-1, 6-1 Region 7-AAA) with help on defense from Russ Gaddis and Noah Sounders.

Lumpkin County plays host to Flowery Branch at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

West Forsyth 4, Lumpkin County 1

Hannah Bodie scored two goals and Jamie Metzger and Dawn Sicchitiano each scored once for the Wolverines in their win against Lumpkin County on Wednesday night in Dahlonega.

Laura Webber scored the lone goal for the Indians (4-8, 2-5 Region 7-AAA).

Lumpkin County plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy boys 1, Mt. Pisgah 0

Austin White scored the lone goal of the game for the Lions off a corner kick from Miles Rogers with three minutes left in the game on Wednesday night in Gainesville.

James Bagwell recorded the shutout for Lakeview (3-10) with defensive help from Pat McCormack.

Lakeview visits Union County at 7 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 1, West Hall 0 (Tuesday)

Victor Caramillo scored the lone goal of the game for the Vikings with 12 minutes left in the second half on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Ricardo Llamas recorded the shutout goal in East Hall (10-5, 5-4 Region 7-AAA) with help from strong defensive play by Jesus Castrejon.

East Hall plays host to Rabun County at 7 p.m. Friday. West Hall (6-7-2, 3-4 Region 7-AAA) hosts Chestatee at 7:30 p.m. today.

Heritage Academy girls 3, Colonial Hills 0 (Tuesday)

Heather Uhrinek scored two goals and Amanda Ross scored one for Heritage Academy in their win against Colonial Hills on Tuesday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.

Jesse Sutton recorded the shutout in goal for Heritage.

Heritage plays Westminster Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday at Allen Creek.

GOLF

Gainesville 108, Lumpkin County 129

Camryn Cole shot a 43 and Susan Frobos shot a 55 for the Lady Red Elephants in their win against Lumpkin County on Wednesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Cole has recorded the lowest score in every match she’s played in this season.

Kayna Clemons led the Indians with a 63.

Gainesville (5-3) faces West Hall at 4 p.m. today at Chicopee Woods.
