Prep scoreboard: Dunson, Indians rout East Hall

GAINESVILLE Lumpkin County High junior Devin Dunson pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and allowed only one hit in the Indians’ 16-1 win against East Hall on Friday night at the East Hall Park. He also led Lumpkin County (4-4, 2-3 Region 7-AAA) at the plate with a three-run home run.  

Chad Fulton went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Indians and Quentin Self and Graham Lytch each went 2-for-2.

Lumpkin County visits White County at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Cleveland. East Hall (3-5, 2-3 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Chestatee at 5 p.m. Monday.

Gainesville 17, Chestatee 1

Sloan Strickland and Robby Hefflinger each had two doubles for the Red Elephants in their win against Chestatee on Friday night at War Eagle Park in Gainesville.

Justin Fordham and Andy Edmondson combined for the win allowing only two hits for Gainesville (5-4, 4-1 Region 7-AAA).

Gainesville visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Cumming. Chestatee (1-6, 0-5 Region 7-AAA) visits East Hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the East Hall Park.

White County 7, North Hall 2

Jesse Brown lifted the Warrriors to victory with a two-run home run and three RBIs on Friday night at Jody Davis Field.

Josh Ingram went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, double and four RBIs for White County (6-3, 4-1 Region 7-AAA).

Luke Crumley picked up the win for the Warriors with seven strikeouts.

White County plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Dahlonega. North Hall visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Oakwood.

Lakeview Academy 8, Banks County 6

Haughton Carswell went 4-for-5 with three runs to lead the Lions at the plate on Friday night in Homer. Colin King had a two-run home run for Lakeview Academy.

Angus Ferguson picked up the win for Lakeview (5-4, 2-0 Region 8-A) with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Zack Dale led the Leopards (5-5, 2-2 Region 8-AA) at the plate with a home run.

Lakeview Academy visits Prince Avenue Christian at 4:30 p.m Monday in Athens. Banks County travels to Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Dawsonville.

SOCCER

East Hall boys 3, Lumpkin County 2

The Vikings overcame a two goal deficit in the second half to force overtime and eventually hand Class AAA’s No. 10 ranked Lumpkin County their first loss on Friday night in Dahlonega.

Hugo Rangel and Christian Almendores each scored for East Hall (9-3, 4-2 Region 7-AAA) in the second half to tie the game.

Valentin Villa, Jon Ray Flores and Jesus Castrejon each scored for the Vikings in the shootout. Lumpkin County (8-1, 5-1 Region 7-AAA) missed their final shot to lose the shootout three penalty kicks to two.

East Hall travels to Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Indians play host to West Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2.

Chestatee girls 1, Lumpkin County 0

Megan Fligg scored the lone goal for the Lady War Eagles in their win against Lumpkin County on Friday night in Gainesivlle.

Sarah Brothers recorded her third shutout of the season for Chestatee (5-6, 2-1 Region 7-AAA), stopping three shots.

Chestatee plays host to White County at 7:30 p.m. The Indians (4-7, 2-4 Region 7-AAA) play host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2.

Buford girls 4, Athens Academy 0

Haley Holderfield scored two goals and had one assist for Class AA’s No. 3 ranked Lady Wolves to defeat No. 13 ranked Athens Academy on Friday night in Buford.

Justine Clay and Elizabeth Darden also scored for Buford. Jacey Chandler and Maria Petroni each added an assist for the Lady Wolves.

Buford goalie Rachael Kaplan made eight saves.

The Lady Wolves travel to No. 11 ranked Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

TENNIS

Johnson boys 3, Gainesville 2 (Thursday)

Seth Hester and Brandon Sloan won in singles for the Knights (9-4, 6-2 Region 7B-AAA) to hand the Red Elephants their first loss of the season on Thursday night. William Anthony and Scott Allan won at No. 2 doubles for Johnson with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

James Wassell won for the Red Elephants at No. 3 singles. Louis Hokayem and Graham Williams won for Gainesville at No. 1 doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Long breaks school record

North Hall High senior Nick Long broke the school record in the 800 meter with a time of 1 minute, 57.01 seconds in a meet against Flowery Branch on Thursday. Long also won the 1600 (4:34), Nolan Clark won the 3200 (10:08), and David Heidkamp won the 300 hurdles for the Trojans.

In the girls race, Katie Spell won the discus (78-feet, 7-inches) and Morgan Van Gorder won the 800 (2:25) and 1600 (5:34).
