Prep basketball: Falcons soar to win

Flowery Branch’s Josh Barrett had 26 points and two steals to lead the Falcons to a 84-62 win over Buford on Saturday night in Buford.

The Falcons (13-2) held a five point lead after the third quarter, but surged to victory scoring 32 in the fourth quarter.

Flowery Branch’s A.C. Bailey finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and a pair of steals. Phillip Chau and Izaan Cross each scored eight for the Falcons.

Jermaine Moore scored 17 for Buford and T.J. Flowers added 14. Flowery Branch visits West Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Buford plays host to Decatur at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

East Hall girls 54, Lumpkin County 28 (Friday)

Lady Vikings senior Sada Wheeler surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her career with 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots Friday night. Jessica Blackwell chipped it 17 points and four assists for East Hall.

East Hall’s defense limited the Lady Indians to only 17 points combined in the final three quarters.

Hart County girls 46, Johnson 40

Haley Chapman led the Lady Knights with 18 points in a losing effort Saturday night at Hart County.

Johnson was outscored 23-12 in the second and third quarters combined and that proved to be the difference in the game as they outscored Hart County 28-23 in the first and fourth quarters combined.

Ansley Benefield added six points, seven rebounds and two blocks for Johnson.

The Lady Knights next play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gainesville.

Riverside Military 55, Westfield Academy 52

Joseph Lister, who finished the game with 16 points, hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Eagles to a win Saturday night in Perry.

Charlie Riley also had 16 points for Riverside (3-7), which trailed 32-24 at halftime.

The Eagles return to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster Christian Academy in Gainesville.

Dawson County boys 43, West Forsyth

Led by Robert O’Quinn’s 18 points and Nick Fiorentino’s 12 the Tigers won their seventh straight Saturday night at West Forsyth.

Dawson County held West Forsyth scoreless in the first quarter and to only eight points in the half taking a 26-8 lead into halftime and not relinquishing the pressure.

The Tigers return to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they travel to Union County.

PREP SWIMMING

Aubuchon leads Gainesville (Friday night)

Andrew Aubuchon led the Gainesville High swim team with a first place finish in the 500 meter freestyle and fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle on Friday night.

Hallie Hene finished third in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle for the Red Elephants.

Chestatee’s Sarah Schwanke placed first in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

North Hall’s Janette Smitherman placed second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Somer Daniel took sixth in the 50 freestyle.

Megan McKinley placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 100 breaststroke. Danya Agnew finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke for the Trojans. North Hall’s Matthew McKinley placed third in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle. Mark Rider tied for third in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 50 freestyle.
