North Hall High junior Paul Powers set two state records in the preliminaries of the state championships Friday with a time of 44.02 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 20 seconds in the 50 free at Georgia Tech. With his times, Powers advanced to the finals in both events Saturday, also at Georgia Tech. Powers, brother Ty, and teammates Bradley Brown and David Schofield helped the North Hall relay teams advance to Saturday’s finals with times of 1 minute, 38.38 seconds in the 200 medley relay and 1:27.81 in the 200 freestyle relay.
