North Hall volleyball advances in playoffs
Lady Trojans await St. Pius X in Sweet 16

The North Hall High volleyball team won its first-round state playoff match against Baldwin (25-12, 25-15, 25-11) on Saturday in Milledgeville.

With the win, the Trojans (28-14-2) travel to top-ranked St. Pius X (34-14) for a second-round matchup at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Atlanta.

Against Baldwin, Kathryn Bell led the Trojans with 24 assists, two kills and two aces. Evann Rowland had 13 kills, four digs and two aces for North Hall, and Lauren Gregory added six kills, a dig, and an ace.

Anna Marchman had six kills for North Hall and Lindsey Wright added three aces and a seven-point service run.

Flowery Branch sweeps Richmond Hill: The Lady Falcons won their first round matchup against Richmond Hill (25-9, 25-17, 25-13) on Saturday in Richmond Hill.

With the win, Flowery Branch (21-18) advances to face Class AAA’s seventh-ranked Riverwood (24-16) on Tuesday in Atlanta.

According to Flowery Branch coach Bryan Mavis, Kathryn McMillin and setter Kenzie Grewett set the pace in the win against Richmond Hill. “I’m happy with the results and our team is looking forward to playing in the second round,” Mavis said.

Flowery Branch is looking for its first trip to the state quarterfinals in program history.

Football

Faith Christian 52, North Georgia Christian 12: North Georgia Christian quarterback Joe Boonstra had one rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown and 152 total yards Friday night. Chargers receiver Zack Pendley had four receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown catch.

North Georgia Christian visits Trinity Christian for the regular season finale at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Sharpsburg.
