To the liking of its coach Trent Mongero, the North Hall baseball team is taking an aggressive approach at the plate.

On Friday, the Trojans (4-3, 1-0 Region 8-AAA North) got ahead early in most counts and ripped six extra-base hits in a 15-0 win against Monroe Area at Jody Davis Field.

It put a nice end to a week that started with a 14-4 win against Habersham Central on Monday, and a quick turnaround after winning just one of its first four games.

"I feel like our guys are gradually getting their confidence back," Mongero said. "Tonight, they squared up good at the plate and were making good contact."

Overshadowed by the offensive numbers and nine-run cushion after the first inning of play, starting pitcher Preston Graham threw three innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts to earn the win for North Hall.

He also came through with an RBI double in the first and finished the game 2 for 2 at the plate.

The Trojans now feel like they're back to full staff, too, with three starters back from the basketball program, including lead-off hitter Andrew Smith.

Smith reached base in all four plate appearance and scored twice against the Purple Hurricanes (1-4).

"We have one goal when we get up to the plate, and that's to move the runners over," Smith said. "I feel like we're starting to hit the ball really well after a slow start to the season."

Friday's game was well under control after the Trojans sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning with a hit from eight different spots in the order.

Zach Mize had the only home run of the game with a two-run shot to left field in his first trip to the plate in the first.

Before the inning was finished, Cody Fowler, Wade Phillips, Eli Gilmer, Lincoln Hewett, Graham and Mize added hits that drove in runs for North Hall.

Mize finished the game 2 for 3 with four RBIs. It comes just four days after finishing with three hits against Habersham Central.

"He hits in the No. 2 hole for a reason," Mongero said. "Not only is he fast, he's got a little juice in his bat."

In the fourth for North Hall, Gilmer and Graham finished the game with hits that scored runs.

Monroe Area didn't record its hit until the fourth inning when Corey Olsen and Collin Cronin each registered hits.

The Trojans play host to Chestatee at 5:55 p.m. Monday at Jody Davis Field. Monroe Area hosts Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Monroe.
