After the North Hall baseball team took home the Class 3A state championship May 25, several Trojans received All-State recognition from Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine on Saturday.

North Hall produced both Co-Players of the Year, honors that went to senior shortstop Taber Mongero and junior pitcher/third baseman Reese Olson. Both broke school records this season while playing pivotal roles in the team’s postseason push.

Mongero, the team’s leadoff hitter, batted .452 during the playoffs and set a school single-season record with 60 hits. Olson posted a 5-0 record in the state tournament, tossing a complete game in all five of his starts. He set a new program high mark with 13 wins while compiling a 1.40 ERA.

Olson’s partner on the mound, senior Corban Meeler, was also a first team All-State selection. Meeler was 3-1 with a 3.19 ERA during the playoffs and 9-4 with a 2.10 ERA for the season.

North Hall coach Trent Mongero was named Class 3A Coach of the Year for guiding the Trojans to their first-ever state championship in the school’s 60-year history. He oversaw the team’s drastic turnaround, which featured 10 straight wins that followed a 1-7 slide to end the regular season and open the playoffs.

In Class 6A, Gainesville’s Banks Griffith received first team All-State honors.
