Lumpkin County defeated Marist 4-3 and 4-2 in the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament on Wednesday in Atlanta, securing a spot in Columbus for the first time in 10 years.
The Lady Indians scored four runs in the first inning of Game 2 to get the win. Ashley Brown picked up the win from the pitching circle in both games and had an RBI in the first game.
Whitney Brown hit a three-RBI home run in the second game and had another RBI in Game 1. Morgan Wood had an RBI double in Game 2. Madison McCarter also had an RBI in the first game.
Lumpkin County faces Northwest Whitfield on Oct. 25 in Columbus.
