Jefferson softball wins pair in Columbus

The Jefferson High softball team opened the season with a pair of wins Saturday in the Jordan Invitational in Columbus.

In Game 1, the Lady Dragons defeated Woodland 6-3. Kara Perry earned the win for Jefferson (2-0) by allowing only two earned runs and no walks. Morgan McKinney led the Lady Dragons offensively with three hits and a pair of RBIs.

Lindsey Miles and Summer Bartek each drove in a run for the Lady Dragons.

In Game 2, Jefferson defeated Shaw 9-1. McKinney earned the win by racking up seven strikeouts from the pitching circle and only allowed one run.

Catherine Knight and Kasey McDonald each had two hits and a solo home run for the Lady Dragons. Jordyn Whitfield was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Miles and Bartek added an RBI.

Jefferson faces Heritage at 8:30 a.m. today in Columbus.
