High school scoreboard: War Eagles win in 3OT

Preston Smith scored 23 points to lead the Chestatee boys basketball team to a 65-64 triple-overtime victory against Cedar Shoals on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Jackson Chandler added 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the War Eagles. The Jaguars scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but were outscored 16-15 in the three overtime periods.

Chestatee faces East Hall at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lanierland tournament at Lakeview Academy.

WEST HALL BOYS 62, LUMPKIN COUNTY 57: Jarquise Young scored 36 points to lead the Spartans on Tuesday night in Dahlonega.

The Indians scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to tie West Hall, but were outscored 7-2 in overtime.

West Hall (4-1) faces Lakeview Academy at the Lanierland tournament on at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Gainesville.

WEST HALL GIRLS 32, LUMPKIN COUNTY 27: Amber Johnson scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Lady Spartans on Tuesday in Dahlonega.

Bailey Soucie added eight points with five rebounds for West Hall.

The Lady Spartans (3-2) play Lakeview Academy at 4 p.m. Thursday in the first round of Lanierland.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 51, WHITE COUNTY 40: Holli Abernathy scored 15 points to lead the Lady Panthers on Tuesday night in Blairsville.

Rebecka Merritt scored 13 points and had nine steals and Angie Hughes scored nine points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four blocks for Union County.

The Lady Panthers visit Towns County at 7 p.m. Friday in Hiawassee.

DAWSON COUNTY BOYS 61, CROSS KEYS 31: Jacob Evans scored 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Tigers on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Stephen Scaife added 13 points and Tyler King scored 12 points for Dawson County.

The Tigers (5-0, 1-0 Region 8A-AA) visit Gilmer at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Elijay.

DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 72, CROSS KEYS 11: Erin Gordon and Carly Gilreath both scored 11 points to lead the Lady Tigers on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Dawson County (5-0, 1-0 Region 8A-AA) visits Gilmer at 7 p.m. Friday in Elijay.

BUFORD BOYS 44, WEST FORSYTH 30: Kyle Kellam scored 10 points to lead the Wolves on Tuesday night in Cumming.

Buford (1-0) plays host to Avondale at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in Buford.

BUFORD GIRLS 72, WEST FORSYTH 41: Andraya Carter scored 24 points to lead the Lady Wolves on Tuesday night in Cumming.

Buford’s defense caused 41 turnovers against the Lady Wolverines.

The Lady Wolves (1-0) play host to Avondale at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 in Buford.

JOHNSON BOYS 83, COMMERCE 51:  Chris Henry and Matt Hollis scored 18 points each to lead the Knights on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Grant Cagle added 15 points, Tre Dudley had 12 points, and Ty Odem had 11 points for Johnson.

Brandon Romans scored 22 points to lead the Tigers (0-1).

The Knights (2-2) face North Hall in the Lanierland tournament at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Academy.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN BOYS 62, HERITAGE ACADEMY 47: Zach Pendley scored 13 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had eight steals to lead the Chargers on Tuesday night in Sugar Hill.

Clay Cox added 15 points and seven assists and Ashton Wright scored 10 points for North Georgia Christian.

The Chargers (7-1) play host to New Creation Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. in Gainesville.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY BOYS 58, ATHENS ACADEMY 41: Dylen Setzekorn scored 20 points to lead the Eagles on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Brandon McKinney added 18 points and Tarvin Dukes scored 12 points for Riverside.

CEDAR SHOALS GIRLS 56, CHESTATEE 51: Peyton Robertson poured in 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Lady War Eagles (3-2) on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Chelsea Wilson added 12 points and six rebounds, while Rachel Kelly scored six points and had 12 rebounds for Chestatee.

Wrestling

WHITLOW WINS NO. 100: Chestatee defeated Commerce 33-30 and Franklin County 55-24 in coach Carey Whitlow’s 100th dual meet victory on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Jose Reyes (103 pounds) and G. Casas (215) both won two matches by pin for Chestatee.

J.W. Gilbert (112) won a match by forfeit and one by pin and Aaron Anderson (215) won both matches by major decision for the War Eagles.

Zach Chadwick (119), Brock White (125), Jorge Ramos (140), Taylor Wright (125), Daniel Moreno and Garrett Bennett (171) each won a match by pin.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 36, GAINESVILLE 33: Riverside Military Academy defeated Gainesville on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

The Eagles’ Drew Goodwin, Seth Sloan, Mancici Vdoji, John Tyman and Michael Stamps each won a match by pin.
