A single-engine plane crashed in the Memorial Park Drive area of Gainesville, police said. Memorial Park Drive at Cross Street is closed, and police are asking for drivers to take alternate routes. The Times has staff members headed to the scene.

Kayla Street had a 2-for-4 night and struck out seven over four innings as she earned the win pitching for Gainesville in a 7-5 win against Johnson on Wednesday in Oakwood.

Kara England started the game in the circle, striking out four, and went 2 for 4 for the Lady Red Elephants (4-8). Kayla Montague finished 4 for 5, and Courtney Presnell was 2 for 3. Tyra Newton also recorded a pair of hits.

Gainesville visits Heritage for a region game tonight in Conyers.

Volleyball

JEFFERSON SWEEPS TALLULAH FALLS (Tuesday): Abby Wood tallied 13 digs and nine kills to lead the Lady Dragons in 26-24, 25-18, 25-20 wins against Tallulah Falls on Tuesday in Tallulah Falls.

Paige Watson had 18 assists, and Grace Williamson added 10 digs and seven kills for Jefferson. Bre Arbanas had four digs and seven kills, and Madison Corbett tallied 11 assists and a pair of aces.
