Softball

Buford rallies, routs Jefferson: Trailing by four runs through the first two innings, Buford came alive to score eight runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth to rout Jefferson 17-4 on Saturday morning.

The Lady Wolves (19-1, 9-0 Region 7-AAA) used three home runs across the final two innings from sophomore Drew Puckett, including a walk-off grand slam in the fourth inning, which secured the win by mercy rule.

Buford’s rally in the third inning started with a grand slam in the third inning by Remington Hasty.

Jefferson (19-6) entered the game after claiming the Region 8-AA regular season championship, and scored two runs in the first and second innings off Buford starter Tessa Daniels to take a 4-0 lead.

After Daniels walked the lead-off batter in the third inning, junior Emily Crocker entered the game to pitch for Buford and she didn’t surrender a hit. 

Crocker improved to 5-0 on the season, pitching two innings, allowing no runs on no hits and no walks.

For Buford, Puckett finished with seven RBIs and three runs scored, while Hasty finished with six RBIs and a pair of runs. 

Jordan Deep was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, while Sydney Stavro was 2 for 2 with two runs scored.

GAINESVILLE SPLITS AT BROOKWOOD: Gainesville’s softball team split a pair of games at the Brookwood Invitational in Snellville on Saturday. The Lady Red Elephants fell to Shiloh before bouncing back to beat Central Gwinnett 19-7.

Kara England earned the win over the Lady Black Knights, striking out for batters. 

At the plate, Anisa Gannon was 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs on the day. England, Courtney Presnell and Kayla Montague were each 2 for 3, while Whitney Ledford was 2 for 5. Gainesville visits Norcross on Monday night.

Cross country

NORTH HALL WINS LAMBERT RIVER RUN: The North Hall boys’ team combined for 27 points to win the Lambert River Run at Chattahoochee Point Park in Suwanee on Saturday morning. Bryce Schuebert (16:33) finished first in the varsity 5K, followed by teammate Quintin Miles (16:35) in second.

Altogether, four North Hall runners finished in the top 10, including Zack Hill (16:51) and Seth Chapman (17:07). Bailey Pless (17:20) finished 12th, followed by Corson Teasley (17:26) in 13th and Tommy Johnston (17:43) in 17th.

Makela Ellis was North Hall’s top finisher in the girls’ event, finishing fourth overall with a time of 19:56.

Volleyball

NORTH HALL GOES 5-0: North Hall’s volleyball team went 5-0 at the Battle of the Branch on Saturday in Flowery Branch. The Lady Trojans beat Flowery Branch 25-11; North Oconee 25-21 and Chestatee 25-13 in pool play.

North Hall then defeated Hart County in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-23, in the Gold Bracket Championship.

Sydney Cleveland finished with 28 kills, nine digs, four aces, and eight blocks. Kristina Gregory had 52 assists, six kills and six aces for the Lady Trojans.

Julie Daniels added 15 kills, 15 digs and eight aces, while Jen Mullican had 20 kills and eight blocks. Makenzie Bryant contributed with 20 digs and seven aces; Juliana Paschall had seven aces, four blocks, seven kills; Kalyn Dyer had six digs and six aces.

LAKEVIEW WINS 1 IN BATTLE OF THE BRANCH: Lakeview’s volleyball team won its final match at the Battle of the Branch tournament on Saturday. After falling to Hart County (25-18, 25-18) and Loganvillle (25-21, 25-20), the Lady Lions beat Gainesville (25-15, 25-15) to earn their only victory of the day.

Katie White led the way with 32 digs, 17 kills and three aces. Shelby Ross finished with seven aces, nine kills, eight digs and a block. Katie Gay added seven kills, 25 digs and two aces.

Delaney Jarrett finished with 23 assists, while Bailey Towels had 15 assists. Samantha Versteeg contributed with 30 digs.

BUFORD WINS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP: Buford’s volleyball team went 4-0 Saturday and won the Gwinnett County Championship at Mill Creek High School. Buford (22-8) beat
Mountain View (19-25, 25-23, 15-10), Greater Atlanta Christian (25-14, 25-19), Wesleyan (25-16, 25-21) and North Gwinnett (25-16, 17-25, 15-9).

Maggie Roper finished with 27 kills, 16 digs; Gabby Curry had 19 kills, 20 digs; Bree Horrocks finished with 18 kills, 10 blocks and

Morgan Mitchell finished with a team-high 64 assists. Buford visits Blessed Trinity on Tuesday night.
