No. 8 North Hall volleball splits tri-match

The No. 8-ranked North Hall High volleyball team split matches with West Forsyth and Johnson on Thursday in Gainesville. The Lady Trojans lost 25-18, 25-19 to West Forsyth, but came back to win the second match with Johnson, 25-17, 25-7. Kathryn Bell had 13 assists on the day, adding two kills and three aces, while Sarah Paschall had 15 digs, two kills and an assist for North Hall (10-5, 3-0 Area 8-AAA).

Tess Patton had a block, an assist and three kills. Megan Cox added 15 digs on defense for North Hall, which heads to Lanier for a playdate with Johnson, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BUFORD SWEEPS AT WEST HALL: Led by Liz Darden’s 41 digs, the Lady Wolves won matches against Jefferson and West Hall on Thursday in Gainesville. Buford won its match with West Hall 25-27, 25-14, 25-14 and Jefferson 25-22, 22-25, 25-22. Maggie Roper had 16 kills and 27 digs, and Jessica Falletta had 11 kills and 22 digs on the day to lead Buford (18-5, Area 6-AA).

In the other match, West Hall lost to Jefferson 25-16, 18-25 and 22-25. Nicolette Ashley had 25 digs on the night, while Laykin Herford added 24 assists. Against Buford, Stephanie Rowland and Tonya Bennett each had five kills and four blocks. LaNiesha Kearse had three kills and five blocks against Jefferson for West Hall (11-9, 0-2 Area 8-AAA). The Lady Spartans visit Archer for a playdate with Chestatee at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Wolves visit Archer for a playdate with Chestatee at 5 p.m. Thursday.

LADY FALCONS WIN TWO AT HOME: Kenzie Grewett had 22 assists and Alexis Love had 11 kills to lead Flowery Branch to the win over Providence Christian 25-14, 12-25, 27-25 at home Thursday. Love added three aces and Brittani Hill had eight kills and three digs in the win. Kathryn McMillin and Amber Merchant each had four kills. Against Loganville, Love had five aces, nine kills and four digs to lead Flowery Branch over Loganville, 25-15, 25-25. Hill added two aces and four kills and Grewett chipped in three aces and 13 assists for Flowery Branch (7-3, 4-0 8-AAAA).

The Lady Falcons play host to Hebron Christian and Winder-Barrow at 5 p.m. Thursday.

LAKEVIEW WINS TWO IN GAINESVILLE: Molly Gay’s 12 assists and Mona Abraham’s seven kills led the Lady Lions to a win over Rabun County on Thursday. Megan McIntire added six aces and Jamie Nixon had five kills while Katie Zottnick and Alaina Plummer each had three aces for Lakeview Academy in the 12-25, 25-10, 27-25 win. Against East Hall, Nixon had six kills and three aces in the 25-18, 25-16 win for Lakeview (10-12, 4-2 Area 8-A/AA). The Lady Lions visit Jackson County for a playdate with Cedar Shoals at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE LOSES TWO AT EASTSIDE: Anna Walker, Katelyn Whelchel and Laura Beth Lorentz played well for the Lady Red Elephants who lost to Union Grove 25-10, 25-23 and Eastside, 25-12, 25-22. Gainesville (1-7) plays host to a playdate with Walnut Grove and Eastside at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Softball

WHITE COUNTY 13, CHESTATEE 0: Callie McDonald earned the win from the pitching circle and had five RBIs at the plate to lead the Lady Warriors to the win on Thursday in Gainesville. McDonald moves to 2-1 on the season and finished the game with a double, a triple and two runs scored in three plate appearances for White County (5-1, 2-0 Region 8-AAA).

Sarabeth Cummins went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Aubrie Gstalder went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Also for the Lady Warriors, Lindsay Whitemire went 2-for-4 and Kristin Mullis went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBIs. White County visits North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH OCONEE 10, JEFFERSON 1: The Lady Dragons had only two hits on Tuesday in Jefferson. North Oconee’s Kayla Byrom threw five innings, striking out three and giving up two hits, to earn the win.

Jefferson (9-5-1, Area 8-AA 3-1) will play host to Oglethorpe County at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE 10, JOHNSON 5: Junior Abby Cooley had three RBIs on Thursday to lead the Lady Red Elephants to the win at Johnson. Rachel Funk earned the win, while Katie Woods went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Gainesville (6-6, 2-3 Region 8-AAA).

Cooley finished the night 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Gainesville will play at Monroe Area at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH GWINNETT 7, BUFORD 6:
Kallie Case went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the loss Thursday in Suwanee. Lexi Overstreet had a two-run single and sacrifice fly, while Whitney Wolfe added an RBI single for Class AA’s No. 1-ranked Buford (10-2).

Chelsie Thomas went 2-for-4 on the night for the Lady Wolves who play host to Avondale at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 6, NORTH HALL 2:
Led by Ashley Brown’s complete-game, four-strikeout performance, the Lady Indians won Thursday in Gainesville. Sara Abercrombie went 3-for-3 on the night, adding an RBI, and Whitney Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Lumpkin County (6-2, 1-1 Region 8-AAA).

Frankie Wells had two runs scored on two hits for the Lady Indians who will face Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Dahlonega.

Cross Country

JOHNSON BOYS PLACE 2ND AT BANKS COUNTY:
The Knights were led by a fourth place finish from Eric Plascencia and a fifth place by Jose Perez in a five-team meet in Homer.

The Lady Knights placed fourth and received a strong showing form Emily Byers, who placed tenth.

Johnson returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the War Eagle Invitational in Gainesville.
