High school scoreboard: Red Elephants squeak past Johnson

The Gainesville High baseball team edged Johnson 9-8 for a region win Wednesday in Oakwood.

Mark Casper was 2-for-4 with a home run and Anderson Loggins scored three runs for the Red Elephants (3-4, 3-3 Region 7-AAA). David Gonzalez and Andy Edmondson each had two hits for Gainesville. Gonzalez and Ryan Griffith each had two RBIs.

Sloan Strickland picked up the win for the Red Elephants. Edmondson earned the save.

Christian Duguay was 3-for-3 and Logan Pethel was 2-for-4 for Johnson (1-5, 1-4). Tray Wilson and Fletcher Whiting homered for the Knights.

Johnson plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:55 p.m. today. Johnson plays host to Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Creekview 7, North Hall 5

The Grizzlies scored five runs in the last three innings to win late and stay unbeaten in region play Wednesday at Jody Davis Field.

K.J. McAllister led North Hall (4-4, 4-2 Region 7-AAA) at the plate with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Jeff Abernathy was
2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Trey Pinson added a solo home run.
North Hall visits Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

West Hall 13, Pickens 4

The Spartans unloaded 16 hits and every hitter in the lineup scored a run Wednesday in Jasper.

Max Everitt had four hits, including two doubles, for West Hall (5-2, 3-2 Region 7-AAA). He also pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and no unearned runs allowed.

Chad Goff had three hits for the Spartans. Caleb Stewart, Luis Delgado and Brandon Grindle each had two hits.

West Hall visits Flowery Branch at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy 14, Mount Pisgah 3

The Lions scored all of their runs over three innings to put Mount Pisgah away early Wednesday in Gainesville.

Tyler Ward doubled, tripled and had RBI for Lakeview (3-0). Nick Saye was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Matt Askounis and Haughton Carswell each had two hits for the Lions.

Jacob Whitenton earned the win for Lakeview.

Lakeview opens region play at home against Social Circle at 4:30 p.m today.

West Forsyth 8, East Hall 7
 
East Hall jumped out to a seven run lead early but West Forsyth chipped away -- aided by 5 East Hall errors and won on a walk of error in the bottom of the seventh
 
East Hall was lead by Drew Adams, who went  2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs.
 

GOLF

Lumpkin County boys 155, West Forsyth 176

Austin Booker was the low-medallist of the day, shooting a 35 for the Indians on Wednesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Aaron George and Everett Huntsinger each shot a 39 for Lumpkin County (3-1). Ben Jarrard carded a 42.

Nick Parisi led West Forsyth with a 39.

Lumpkin County visits North Forsyth at 3:45 p.m. Monday at Hampton Golf Village in Cumming.

Dawson County boys 158, Jackson County 180

The Tigers broke a school record set earlier this season in a win Wednesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Nick Fitts and Cody Palmer each shot a 38 for Dawson County (3-2). Matt Christopher and Zach Williams each carded a 41 for the Tigers.

Dawson County faces Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. today at Chestatee Golf Course.

Dawson County girls 92, Jackson County 129

Katie Stowers and Charley Whitmire each shot a 46 as the Lady Tigers stayed undefeated on the season Wednesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Dawson County faces Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. today at Chestatee Golf Course.

SOCCER

North Georgia Christian girls 4, Horizon Christian 0


The Lady Chargers scored twice in the first two minutes to secure a win early on Wednesday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Ashley Valentine scored twice for North Georgia Christian (2-1). Jordan Ball and Kayla Goodson also scored.

Katie Powers recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Chargers. She was helped on defense by Brittany White, Rachael Dennis and Katherine Dunlap.

North Georgia Christian plays host to Heritage Christian at 2 p.m. today.

TENNIS

Flowery Branch boys 4, Chestatee 1

Phillips Chau, Destin Tipton and Culter Burch swept singles to earn the Falcons' first win of the season Wednesday in Flowery Branch.

Nathan Still and Jake Jacobs won a doubles match for Flowery Branch (1-6, 0-3 Region 7-AAA).

Scott McConnell and Justin Byers won in doubles for Chestatee.

Flowery Branch plays host to East Hall at 4:30 p.m. today. Chestatee plays host to North Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Flowery Branch girls 4, Chestatee 1

The team of Lindsey Shaw and Morgan Reed and the team of Nicki Price and Morgan Ruiz swept doubles for the Lady Falcons on Wednesday at Chestatee High.

Jennica Ramey and Megan Grewett won in singles for Flowery Branch. Allison Wedegis won in singles for Chestatee.

Flowery Branch visits East Hall at 4 p.m. today. plays host to North Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Riverside Military 3, Rabun County 2

Matt Lowery and Joe Kowalski won in singles to help the Eagles win its region opener Wednesday in Tiger.

Wes McNally and Davis Mueller won in doubles to secure the win for Riverside.

Riverside visits North Hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall girls 4, North Forsyth 1

The team of Chelsea Britt and Alex Wright and the team of Ellie Smith and Kayla Cansler swept doubles to secure a win for the Lady Spartans on Wednesday in Cumming.

Kaylin Walters and Samantha Lingle won in singles for West Hall (6-2).

West Hall visits Johnson at 4 p.m. today.

Johnson girls 5, East Hall 0 (Tuesday)

Cady Nix, Camy Field and Katie Clark swept singles in straight sets for the Lady Knights on Tuesday at East Hall High.
Johnson completed the shutout with wins in doubles by the team of Claire Crain and Harlee Robson and the team of Laura Gazaway and Annabeth Peace.

Peace, a senior, is 7-0 on the season.

Johnson plays host to West Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy boys 5, Towns County 0 (Tuesday)

Nekhil Patel, Mike Fowler and Kollin Smith each won in singles to open a subregion play with a shutout Tuesday in Hiawassee.

The team of Matt Morris and Alex Klecan and the team of Sean Casey and Jackson Beck completed the sweep in straight sets for Lakeview.

Lakeview plays host to Woody Gap at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy girls 3, Towns County 2 (Tuesday)

Molly Smith and Nyari Chanakira each won in singles for the Lady Lions on Tuesday in Hiawassee.

Cree Nix and Komal Patel won in doubles for Lakeview.

Lakeview plays host to Woody Gap at 4 p.m. today.

Hart County girls 5, Jackson County 0 (Tuesday)

The Lady Bulldogs swept Jackson County in straight sets to pick up a region win Tuesday in Hartwell.

Jackson County plays host to Franklin County at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
