The East Hall boys basketball season got off to a rough start on Saturday as the Vikings fell to Eagles Landing, 93-74, in the opening game of the Bulldog Classic at North Gwinnett High.
J.C. Hampton led the way for the Vikings with 32 points in the game, and Hayden Chapman added 20.
Despite leading by five after the first quarter, East Hall (0-1) fell behind by six at the half and by 20 at the end of three. It played a solid fourth quarter, but was unable to close the gap.
Eagles Landing was paced by Isaiah Dennis (25 points) and John Egbuner (24 points).
The Vikings will face Flowery Branch at home on Dec. 2.
BUFORD BOYS ESCAPE PARKVIEW: The Wolves basketball team overcame a difficult third quarter to defeat Parkview High, 71-69, at the Eric Snow Showcase at River Ridge High on Saturday.
Buford (1-0) took a six-point lead into the half, but saw it disappear when it was outscored 23-15 in the third quarter. A 25-point outburst in the fourth, however, was enough to seal the victory.
Only five players scored for both teams. Kyle Kellam led the Wolves in scoring with 22 points, followed by Brad Mapes and Isaiah Williams with 19 and 16, respectively.
Buford plays next against Berry High (Charlotte) in the Charlotte Hoops Challenge on Friday.
DAWSON AND TOWNS SPLIT GAMES: Both boys and girls basketball teams for Dawson County and Towns County faced off on Saturday, drawing a split in the two games. The Tigers topped Towns County, 64-22, while the Towns County girls came out on top 76-66.
The boys played at Dawson County, and the girls played at Towns.
The Dawson County boys (2-0) were led by Tyler Dominy’s 25 points and cruised to an easy win. Grant Arcenia scored 10 points for Towns (0-2) in the game.
For the girls, the Lady Tigers led the majority of the contest, but were unable to close it out at the end. Carly Gilreath led them in the losing effort with 18 points. Ashley Parker added 13 points and seven rebounds.
CHESTATEE GIRLS CRUISE PAST LANIER: The Lady War Eagles basketball team won at Lanier on Saturday, 48-19. Maegan Kenimer notched a double-double in the game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 boards.
Chestatee held Lanier to single-digit scoring in every quarter.
The Lady War Eagles will play Northview at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the Lanier Thanksgiving Classic at Lanier High.
LAKEVIEW GIRLS WIN BY ONE: Lakeview Academy girls basketball defeated North Cobb Christian by one, 34-33, at Savannah Country Day High on Saturday.
The win improved the Lady Lion to 2-0 on the season after their two-point win against West Hall last Tuesday.
Kelsey Gilbert led the team in scoring with 12 points.
Lakeview will face Providence Christian at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Johnson High Tournament.
