The North Georgia Christian boys fell against Lafayette Christian Academy 60-53 in the GICAA Division II-A state championship game on Saturday at Gordon State College in Barnesville.
Will Owens paced the Chargers with 17 points, while Norris Rettiger added 14.
GAINESVILLE TRACK AND FIELD SHINES AT FRIDAY’S WINDER-BARROW EVENT: Gainesville High’s Tyreke Watson won the boys shot put, while Sam Wright finished second and Kamon Newson took fourth in the shot put on Friday at Winder-Barrow.
Faith Moss took second place in the girls pole vault, while Carlie Buffington finished in fourth.
Tinisha Watson won the girls long jump, and Manny Remes placed second in the boys long jump. Kamden Young finished eighth in the boys long jump.
Watson placed second in the boys discus event, Newson finished fifth and Alicia Ibarra took fifth, while Zavala placed seventh for the girls.
The Gainesville High boys A team won, while the boys B team finished third.
Taylor Sturdivant placed fourth in the 400-meter, while Sha’lese Green took fifth. Daniel Ruiz finished in third in the 1600 meter, Alex Lopez had a fourth-place finish, Miguel Lopz took fifth and Quay Thompson was sixth.
Nick Anderson won the boys triple jump event, while teammate Cameron Cheeks finished in second.
Tinisha Watson won the girls long jump event.
Manny Remes and Young finished second and third, respectively, in the boys 100-meter dash.
Myron Dabney, Cameron Sturdivant and Rabbit Smith finished 1-2-3 in the boys 400-meter run, while Precious Wilkins place second in the girls 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Tanisha Watson and Samiyah Toomer finished first and second, while Mela Hendrix took fifth place in the 100-meter dash. Katherine Edwards, Mitxi Ortiz, Sophie Rosetti and Bella Gonzalez finished 3-6.
Ortiz and Green finished third and fourth in the girls 800-meter, while Micah Moss finished third for the boys. Edwards had a second-place finish in the girls 3200-meter race.
Sophie Rosetti and Nathalie Ortega had fourth and fifth-place finishes behind Edwards.
Sturdivant and Winslo Cherisma had a 1-2 finish in the boys 200-meter dash, while Cameron Hunter and David Zhan came in eight and 10th place, respectively.
Myron Dabney, Sturdivant, Smith and Cortez Jackson all finished 1-2-3-4 in the 400-meter dash. Moss had a third-place finish in the boys 800-meter run.
Alex Sosa came in second place in the boys 3200-meter run.
Remes won the boys 300-meter hurdles, while Michael Hall came in third.
