Gainesville junior Spencer Ralston fired a blistering second-round 66, and the Red Elephants rallied to beat Marist by one shot at The Invite on Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville. Over 36 holes, Gainesville finished at 573, Marist 574 and Lee Scott Academy placed third 582.
The Red Elephants trailed Marist by six shots entering the final round of play.
Ralston won the individual honors, along with a first-round 68, to win by six shots (134). Marist’s Will Chandler and Gainesville's Nathan Williams were tied for second individually (140), after both shot a matching 69 and 71 for the two-day event.
Also for the Red Elephants, Lawson King finished tied for 12th (148). Gainesville’s Brady Holcomb was tied for 16th (152).
For North Hall, Bartley Forrester tied for 18th (152) with three others.
On May 18, Gainesville takes part in the Class AAAAA state championship meet the The Country Club of Columbus.
