Jefferson baseball tops Jackson County

Drew Carson earned the complete-game win, surrendering three hits, one earned run, and striking out five, as Jefferson defeated Jackson County, 6-2, on Thursday in Jefferson. Jesse Tallent went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Dragons (7-7, 6-6 Region 8-AA), while Carson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jefferson hosts Elbert County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

GAINESVILLE 10, CHESTATEE 0: Hunter Anglin earned the complete-game, five-inning win Thursday at Ivey-Watson Field. Anglin also went 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI in the win for sixth-ranked Gainesville (12-2, 10-2 Region 8-AAA). Lee Sisson went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Michael Gettys added a double, an RBI, and a run scored on 2-for-3 hitting. Stephen Mason (2-for-4) drove in a run and scored a run for the Red Elephants, who host Lanier at 5:55 p.m. Friday. Chestatee visits Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

NORTH HALL 22, JOHNSON 7 (FIVE INNINGS): The Trojans scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to the win Thursday in Oakwood. Mason Savage (3-for-3) hit a home run with five RBIs to lead North Hall (11-3, 10-2 Region 8-AAA), while Griffin Olson (3-for-3) and Jesse Strickland (2-for-3) each homered and drove in four runs. Cody Fowler went 2-for-2 with a home run and a double for North Hall, which hosts White County at 5:55 p.m. Friday.
Brandon Adams hit a three-run home run for Johnson (7-7, 6-6), which hosts West Hall at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

WINDER-BARROW 10, FLOWERY BRANCH 8: Chase Hulsey, Brett Davidson, Logan Conley and Kelton Devoe each had two hits in the loss Thursday in Flowery Branch. The Falcons (8-3, 4-2 Region 8A-AAAA) visit Madison County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Golf

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 91, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 109: Meg Callahan carded a low-round of 45 to lead the Lady Red Elephants to the win Thursday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. LeeAnn Noble fired a 46 for Gainesville, which next plays in the Region 8-AAA tournament, beginning at 8 a.m. April 14 at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.
Ashley Blackburn (54) and Veronica Brooks (55) scored for Habersham Central, which plays in the Madison Invitational on Saturday at Double Oaks Golf Course.

WEST HALL BOYS 2, DACULA 1: Fidel Rodriguez and Omar Castillo each scored a goal in the win Thursday in Oakwood. West Hall (9-4-1, 6-3 Area 8-AAA) hosts Walnut Grove at 7:30 p.m. April 12.

JOHNSON GIRLS 7, WALNUT GROVE 1: Kalyn Dumanowsky scored two goals in the win Thursday in Oakwood. Kayla Madsen added a goal and an assist for Johnson, which visits Monroe Area at 6 p.m. April 12.

BUFORD GIRLS 10, MAYNARD-JACKSON 0: Eight players scored for Buford in the win Thursday in Atlanta. The Lady Wolves (11-2, 3-1 Area 6A-AA) visit Westminster at 5:30 p.m. April 13.

Tennis

GAINESVILLE BOYS 5, JOHNSON 0: Connor McMorrow, Jackson Goble, and the doubles teams of Jake Maddox/Austinn Miller and Alexander Davis/Alec Zais won in straight sets Thursday in Oakwood. Gainesville plays in the region tournament beginning April 13 at Alberta Banks Park.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 3, JOHNSON 2: The doubles teams of Kate Callahan/Lauren Carter and Suzanne Smith/Mady Wuest won in straight sets for the Lady Red Elephants on Thursday in Oakwood. Gainesville (11-6, 9-3 Region 8B-AAA) plays in the region tournament beginning April 13 at Alberta Banks Park.
Cady Nix and Harlee Robson won in straight sets for Johnson.

WEST HALL BOYS 5, MONROE AREA 0: The Spartans locked up the No. 1 seed from Region 8B-AAA with the win Thursday at Bobby Bailey Tennis Center. Brenden Worth, Tatum Scroggs, Min Kim, and the doubles teams of Jacob Bruns/Sam Pinson and Ryan Casey/Connor Kirkland won in straight sets for West Hall (16-2, 11-1), which opens play in the region tournament April 13 at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, APALACHEE 0: Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory, Morgan Reed, and the doubles teams of Dani Taylor/Durden Smith and Madison Smith/Bekki Benton won in straight sets Thursday in Flowery Branch. The Lady Falcons (17-1, 10-0 Region 8A-AAAA) will open play in the region tournament as the No. 1 seed on April 14 at Madison County.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 5, APALACHEE 0: Taylor Fiorello, Cris Dilidili, A.J. Morris, and the doubles team of Luke Smith/Anthony Monacella won in straight sets Thursday in Flowery Branch. The Falcons (13-5, 9-1) open play in the region tournament April 14 at Madison County.
