Gainesville ties for first at Georgia-South Carolina Cup

Pep Brown, Lawson King and Grant Lasseter led Gainesville as they tied for first place with Easley (S.C.) with a team score of 293 in the Georgia-South Carolina Cup on Friday afternoon The Orchard in Clarkesville. The field consisted of a mix of 16 programs from both states.

Habersham Central finished in third place with a 299. Lee McCoy finished in second place individually with a 68 for the Raiders.

CHESTATEE BOYS 196, BANKS COUNTY 204 (THURSDAY): Taylor Wood shot a 47 for the Leopards on Thursday afternoon at Scales Creek Golf Course.

Jeffrey Nicholson finished with a 51 for Banks County and Jack Gale shot a 52.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 91, CHESTATEE 100 (THURSDAY): Cara Gowder led the Lady Leopards with a 40 on Thursday afternoon at Scales Creek Golf Course.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 84, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 99 (THURSDAY): Madeline Harr led the Lady Red Elephants with a 41 on Thursday afternoon at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Ashley Blackburn led the Lady Raiders with a 48 and Alex Oren shot a 51.

Both teams will play in the Spartan Lanier Challenge at Lake Lanier Islands at 1 p.m. today.

Baseball

LUMPKIN COUNTY 5, WALNUT GROVE 4: Cole Runyon led the Indians (5-7) going 2 for 3 with a home run and a game winning hit in the top of the seventh inning on Friday in Dahlonega. Calvin Medlin had a two run home run in the sixth inning for Lumpkin County, and Evan Gaddis finished with two doubles and one RBI. Jacob Haskell earned the win for the Indians.

Lumpkin County hosts White County at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Dahlonega.

WEST HALL 9, CHESTATEE 3: Jake Shirley led the Spartans (4-8, 2-5 Region 8-AAA South) with three hits three runs and two stolen bases Friday. Zach English earned the win for West Hall allowing only three hits and one earned run in six innings with nine strikeouts.

The Spartans host Monroe Area at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

JACKSON COUNTY 2, HART COUNTY 1: Andy Williams led the Panthers (6-5, 2-3 Region 8-AA South) going 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs on Friday night in Jefferson. Trey Sorrells went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored for Jackson County, and Jalen Banks earned the win with nine strikeouts.

The Panthers visit Hart County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

JOHNSON 15, WHITE COUNTY 10: A.J. Benefield went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run, grand slam and a two-run double. He finished the game with nine RBIs. Benefield also earned the win in relief on the mound for the Knights on Friday night in Oakwood. Trae Wilson went 2 for 2 with a three-run home run, two-run double and five RBIs for Johnson. Chris White was 4 for 4 with a double for Johnson.

Brett Westmoreland went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Warriors, and Will Flowers went 2 for 3 with three RBIs

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 5, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 2: Ted Reynolds led the Lions (9-4, 6-3 Region 8-A) going 2 for 3 with a double, a single and two RBIs on Friday evening in Gainesville. Alex Martin went 2 for 3 with two singles for Lakeview Academy, Harrison Styles earned the win with seven strikeouts and Dakotah Chalmers got the save striking out three in the last inning.

The Lions visit George Walton Academy at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH OCONEE 6, JEFFERSON 1: Andrew Bartek led the Dragons (6-6, 2-3 Region 8-AA) going 2 for 4 with a home run and a double on Friday night in Bogart.

Jefferson hosts North Oconee at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

EAST HALL 7, RABUN COUNTY 1: Jonathan Woodring led the Vikings allowing only three hits in six innings with nine strikeouts.

Hunter Buffington went 3 for 4 for East Hall, and C.J. White finished with two doubles.

The Vikings travel to Union County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LOGANVILLE 10, FLOWERY BRANCH 2: The Falcons (8-3) visit Habersham Central at 5:55 p.m. Monday, followed by a home game against the Raiders in Flowery Branch on Wednesday.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL 12, SALEM 1 (THURSDAY): Dylan Dalton led the Raiders (4-8, 1-3 Region 8-AAAA) going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and earning a five inning complete victory allowing only five hits and one earned run on Thursday afternoon in Conyers. Jake Brewer went 1 for 3 with three RBIs for Habersham Central, and Pat Taylor went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

The Raiders host Flowery Branch at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY 9, PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 7 (THURSDAY): The Eagles were trailing 6-5 in the top of the seventh inning before Orlando Lynch connected on a home run to tie the game on Thursday afternoon. Drew Coffey earned the win for Riverside Military with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Christian Phares got the save for the Eagles with three strikeouts in two innings.

BANKS COUNTY 1, DAWSON COUNTY 0 (THURSDAY): Senior left-hander Taylor Foster threw a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts for the Leopards (5-3, 3-2 Region 8-AA North) on Thursday in Homer. The win moved Banks County into a second place tie in Region 8A-A.

The Leopards visit Dawson County at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Tennis

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 3, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 2: The Eagles swept both doubles matches on Friday afternoon in Gainesville.

Lee Allen Martin recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles for the Lions, and Seth Black finished 6-4, 6-3.

JOHNSON GIRLS 5, MONROE-AREA 0 (THURSDAY): Singles players Maggie Turner, Harlee Robson and Natalie Crenshaw each recorded wins for the Lady Knights on Thursday afternoon. Ashley Hogan and Karina Rivera recorded a win at No. 1 doubles for Johnson, and Marissa Rodriquez and Riley McNeil added a win at No. 2 doubles.

Soccer

BUFORD GIRLS 2, DECATUR 1: Cely Coker and Lindsey White each scored a goal for the Lady Wolves (9-3, 4-0 Region 6-AA) on Friday afternoon in Buford.

The Lady Wolves host Greater Atlanta Christian at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 1, WHITE COUNTY 0: Brittany Martin scored for the Lady Knights (7-3-1, 5-1 Region 8-AAA South) off of an assist from Kayln Dumanowsky in the first 10 minutes of the match on Friday night in Oakwood.

Macy Collins and Bethany Johnson combined in goal for Johnson’s shutout.

Johnson visits Oconee County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

JOHNSON BOYS 7, WHITE COUNTY 0: Edgar Ochoa led the Knights (8-1-2, 5-1 Region 8-AAA South) with two goals and one assist on Friday night in Oakwood. Jonathan Mendoza, Israel Avila, Israel Azura, Fidel Rodriguez and Seth Rebollar each added a goal for Johnson. Christian Isidro had two assists for the Knights.

Johnson visits Oconee County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 4, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: Tristian Bailey scored a hat trick for the Lady Trojans (4-7, 4-3) on Friday night in Dahlonega. Alex Lawson added a goal for North Hall, and Olivia Smith, Diana Moreno and Morgan Land each had assists.

Alden Powell and Kayla Castleberry combined in the shutout for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall hosts Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HALL BOYS 3, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: Zach Tibbs led the Trojans (7-1-1, 6-1 Region 8-AAA North) with a goal and one assist on Friday night in Dahlonega. Junior Avalos and Dillon Martin each added one goal for North Hall, and Raymond Salamanca and Chance Martin each finished with an assist.

Abraham Elias and Isiah Vigil combined in goal for the Trojans’ shutout.

North Hall hosts Chestatee at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY 4, GEORGIA MILITARY 0: After a tied first half, Ryan Marcan scored a hat trick for the Eables (9-1-1, 4-0 Region 8A) on Friday afternoon. Lanre Shitte-Bay added a goal for Riverside Military, and Victor Salcido recorded the sixth shutout of the season.

The Eagles visit Lakeview Academy at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
