High school scoreboard: Lumpkin County holds off late rally for win

The Lumpkin County High baseball team held off a late rally by West Forsyth to defeat the Wolverines 8-7 on Monday in Dahlonega.

The Indians (6-1, 4-1 Region 7-AAA) lost a three-run lead in the top of the sixth inning, but scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Devin Dunson struck out the side in the seventh inning for Lumpkin County, handing West Forsyth its first region loss.

Chad Fulton led Lumpkin County at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Dunson hit a solo home run and Blake Sargent had two hits. Drew Uptegraph added a hit and an RBI for the Indians.

David Webber picked up the win and got the Indians out of the sixth-inning jam. Dunson earned the save.

Lumpkin County visits Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

North Hall 15, Johnson 2

The Trojans scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a region win Monday at Jody Davis Field.

K.J. McAllister homered, scored three runs and had three RBIs for North Hall (4-3, 4-1 Region 7-AAA). Chris Stevens doubled and had three runs scored and two RBIs. Ryan Pitts was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Trey Pinson added two hits and Nathan Strong scored three runs for the Trojans.

Nathan Hewell picked up the win for North Hall.

North Hall plays host to Creekview at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday. Johnson (1-4, 1-3) plays host to Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Flowery Branch 8, East Hall 1

James Wilson was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBIs while pitching a complete game for the Falcons on Monday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

Corey Sanderson had two hits and an RBI for Flowery Branch (3-3, 2-3 Region 7-AAA).

Flowery Branch plays host to White County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. East Hall (2-5, 1-4) visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

White County 12, Gilmer 2

Luke Crumley struck out eight hitters for his second win of the season while going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs in a five-inning win on Monday in Cleveland.

Zack Messmore led White County (4-2, 3-2 Region 7-AAA) at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Travis Rutkiewicz homered, scored two runs and had two RBIs.

White County visits Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Jefferson 10, Riverside Military 3

Jake Fields was 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Dragons on Monday in Jefferson.

Caleb Meek and Jamie Sexton had two hits for Jefferson (3-1). Jason Demos had two RBIs.

Jamie Sexton earned the win for the Dragons.

Will Huff led Riverside (0-4) with two hits. Lucas Bersin scored two runs for the Eagles.

Jefferson visits Banks County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Riverside visits Tallulah Falls at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Banks County 7, Commerce 4

The Leopards unloaded 16 hits to pick up their second straight win Monday in Commerce.

Justin Gibbs and Justin Bowen led Banks County (3-1) at the plate, each with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Jeff Smith and Chris Porter added two hits for the Leopards.

Hunter Ward had two hits for Commerce (3-2).

Banks County plays host to Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. today. Commerce visits Prince Avenue Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Dawson County girls 92, Lumpkin County 118

Charley Whitmire shot a 43 and Katie Stowers carded a 49 as the Lady Tigers stayed unbeaten Monday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Kayna Clemons led Lumpkin County with a 57.

Dawson County (3-0) plays host to Jackson County at 4 p.m. at Crystal Falls Golf Course. Lumpkin County plays host to West Forsyth at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at Achasta Golf Course.

Lumpkin County boys 161, Dawson County 178

Everett Huntsinger was the low-medallist of the day with a 38 for the Indians on Monday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Tyler Dibble carded a 40 for Lumpkin County. Cody Palmer led Dawson County, shooting a 42.

Dawson County plays host to Jackson County at 4 p.m. at Crystal Falls Golf Course. Lumpkin County plays host to West Forsyth at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at Achasta Golf Course.

West Forsyth girls 4, Flowery Branch 1

Jennica Ramey was the lone winner for the Lady Falcons with a win at No. 1 singles Monday in Cumming.

Sarah Fogg and Macy Day won in singles for West Forsyth. The team of Kathrine Harris and Carolina Wallner and the team of Sydney Niemi and Savannah Miller each won in doubles for the Wolverines.

Flowery Branch visits Chestatee at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Chestatee boys 5, Hart County 0

Adam Yates, Max Gingles and Abraham Montoya swept Hart County in singles Monday at Chestatee High.

The team of Scott McConnell and Justin Byers and the team of Matt Olson and Graham Kosiba completed the sweep in doubles for Chestatee (5-3).

Chestatee plays host to Lumpkin County at 4 p.m. today.

West Hall girls 3, Forsyth Central 2

Kaylin Walters and Samantha Lingle each won singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Spartans on Monday in Cumming.

The team of Chelsea Britt and Alex Wright won in doubles for West Hall (4-2), also in straight sets.

West Hall visits North Forsyth at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Chestatee girls 5, Rabun Gap 0 (Saturday)

Daniela Sotelo scored twice and Morgan Dooley had a goal and assist in the Lady War Eagles’ shutout win Saturday at Chestatee High.

Megan Fligg and Charlotte Hill also scored for Chestatee (5-1-1), which had 27 shots on goal.

Sharon Sotelo and Sarah Brothers combined for Lady War Eagles’ shutout.

Chestatee visits North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Trojans fare well in weekend tourney (Saturday)

The North Hall boys track team finished seventh out of 17 teams Saturday at the Peachtree Ridge Invitational.

Nolan Clark won the 3200 with a time of 9 minutes 54 seconds and the distance medley relay team of Ty McCormack, Travis McEnaney, Brandon Lawson, and Clark also finished first with a time of 10:59.

Peyton Wilhoite finished third in the discus with a throw of 134-feet, 11-inches and Ben Booth placed fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 10-6. Also finishing in the top eight were the 4x800 relay team of Clark, McCormack, Reese Walker, and Luis Gonzalez placing fifth, Bryant Parks finishing sixth in the discus, McCormack finishing sixth in the 1600, Zach Bradley finishing seventh in the pole vault, Cody Barger finishing eighth in the 3200, and the sprint medley relay team of Ben Satterfield, Randy Olson, Booth, and Walker also finishing eighth.
