Ashley Morris scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning to lead Banks County past Jefferson, 1-0 on Wednesday in the first round of the Region 8-AA softball tournament in Homer.

The Dragons (9-12, 7-3 Region 8-AA) and the Leopards (20-8, 8-2 Region 8-AA) were engaged in a best of three series and Jefferson split against Banks County on Tuesday winning their first game 1-0 and then lost 10-2 to the force the teams into the tie-breaker.

West Hall splits at senior night

The Spartans defeated Chestatee (25-19, 27-25), but lost to Flowery Branch (25-14, 25-13) in a tri-match Tuesday in Oakwood.

Senior Erica Grainger led West Hall (16-18, 6-5 Region 7-AAA) offensively with 20 assists, and four aces on the night.

Freshman Laykin Herford and senior Sadie Cornett had three aces each for the Spartans.

Tonya Bennett had six kills and Nicolette Ashley had nine digs for West Hall.
