High school scoreboard: Johnson notches first win

Tevin Arthur scored on a 22-yard, second-quarter touchdown run and the Johnson football team defeated Pickens 10-0 on Friday in Jasper.

Chris Henry added a first quarter field goal for the Knights (1-3).

Mantevius Rucker led Johnson with 22 carries for 75 yards. Arthur finished with 43 yards rushing.

On defense, E.J. Wright had six tackles for Johnson and Caleb Jackson added five.

Johnson plays host to Flowery Branch and Pickens visits Chestatee next Friday.

TOWNS COUNTY 48, HAYESVILLE (N.C.) 12: The Indians defeated Hayesville for the first time in the 26-year series history Friday at Frank McClure Stadium in Hiawassee.

Towns County (1-3) quarterback John Swilley was 12-of-14 passing for 162 yards.

Matt Beni led the Indians on the ground with 14 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and Matt Hogsed was the team’s leading receiver with four catches for 86 yards and three touchdowns.

Towns County visits Dade County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Trenton.

BANKS COUNTY 18, RABUN COUNTY 14: Junior tight end Matthew Patton led Banks County in rushing with 82 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown in the Leopards’ (1-2, 1-1 Region 8-AA) win over Rabun County on Friday in Homer.

Chris Smith rushed for 77 yards on 15 carries and senior quarterback Kane Duncan rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown for the Leopards.

Duncan was also 4-for-7 passing for 43 yards.

Banks County returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday when it visits North Oconee.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL 31, LOGANVILLE 27: David Griffin led Habersham Central with 129 rushing yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns in a win against Loganville on Friday in Mount Airy.

Quarterback Austin Brown went 17-for-24 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders (2-2, 2-2 Region 8-AAAA).

On the receiving end of Brown’s touchdown passes was senior Jamaal Walters who had five catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

The Raiders visit Winder-Barrow at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Winder.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 49, SKIPSTONE ACADEMY 7: Quarterback Joe Boonstra led North Georgia Christian with 99 yards passing and three touchdowns and rushed for 50 yards on three carries in the Chargers win over Skipstone Academy on Friday night in Gainesville.

Zach Pendley had 119 yards on seven receptions and four touchdowns and Aaron Willis had four carries for 77 yards and a touchdown.

North Georgia Christian visits Praise Academy at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Griffin.

VOLLEYBALL

North Hall wins one in tournament play

Kathryn Bell led North Hall with 26 assists and two aces on the night in a win against Mountain View (25-11, 25-7) and in losses against North Gwinnett (25-12, 26-24) and West Forsyth (25-14, 25-18) at the Collins Hill Classic on Thursday in Suwanee.

Lauren Gregory had 10 kills, six digs and two aces, Sarah Paschall had four kills, three aces and a nine-point service run and Anna Marchman had eight kills with two digs.

North Hall continues tournament play today in Suwanee.
