High school scoreboard: Indians start strong

The Lumpkin County High baseball team picked up its second win in as many nights, defeating Jackson County 14-7 on Tuesday in Dahlonega.

The Indians (2-0) took advantage of eight Jackson County errors and jumped out to a 9-1 lead through two innings. They finished the night with 15 hits.

David Webber was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Lumpkin County. Jonathan Whitehead was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Devin Dunson, Kyle Lovell and Will Anderson each had two hits for the Indians.

Blake Sargent picked up the win for Lumpkin County.

Matt Robinson doubled and tripled for Jackson County (0-1).

Lumpkin County visits Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Jackson County visits Oglethorpe County at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

SOCCER

West Hall boys 2, West Forsyth 1

Matt Lewis buried a shot in the second half to break a tie and push the Spartans’ winning streak to five on Tuesday in Cumming.

Juan Arbelaez also scored for West Hall (5-0, 2-0 Area 7-AAA) on assist from Eavin Mendieta.

West Hall plays host to North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Buford girls 4, St. Francis 1

Liz Darden recorded a goal and an assist as the Lady Wolves won its first region game Tuesday in Alpharetta.

Jacey Chandler, Moriah Mills and Lindsey White also scored for Buford (3-1, 1-0 Area 11-A/AA). Lindsay Baxter, Haley Holderfield and Katie Garth recorded assists.

Buford plays host to second-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Greater Atlanta Christian girls 3, North Hall 2

The Lady Spartans finished with two late goals in the final eight minutes to secure victory on Tuesday night in Norcross. Anna Marchman scored the game's first goal for North Hall on a cross pass from Julia Matthews. Early in the second half, Marchman headed a pass that Heather Strickland volleyed into the net from 20 yards out giving the Lady Trojans a 2-1 lead.

North Hall visits West Hall to open Region 7-AAA play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Oakwood. 

GOLF

North Hall girls 108, West Hall 111

The Lady Trojans opened their regular season with a close win Tuesday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Megan Carr shot a 58 and Amy Lewis had a 60 North Hall (1-0).

North Hall faces Lumpkin County at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Dawson County boys 160, Fannin County 179

The Tigers set school record in team scoring in their win Tuesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Zach Williams led Dawson County (1-1) with a 36. Cody Palmer shot a 40, Wesley Bearden had a 41 and Nick Fitts and Matt Christopher each shot a 43.

Dawson County returns to Crystal Falls at 4 p.m. next Wednesday.

Dawson County girls 78, Fannin County 105

Due to darkness, play was suspended at the seventh hole for Fannin County, but last year’s Class AA state runner up Lady Tigers had already clinched the win Tuesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Charley Whitmire shot a 45 for Dawson County (1-0). Katie Stowers had a 55.

Dawson County returns to Crystal Falls at 4 p.m. next Wednesday.

TENNIS

West Hall boys 5, Central Gwinnett 0

Brenden Worth, Jimmy Kincaid and Tyler Burgamy each won singles matches in the Spartans’ first win of the season Tuesday in Oakwood.

The team of Andrew Johnson and Connor McFall and the team of Steven Backus and Nathan Turner picked up wins to complete the shutout for West Hall (1-2).

West Hall visits West Forsyth on Monday.

West Hall girls 3, Central Gwinnett

The Lady Spartans dominated doubles play, with the team of Samantha Lingle and Alex Wright and the team of Ellie Smith and Kayla Cansler picking up wins Tuesday in Oakwood.

Chelsea Britt won a singles match for West Hall (2-1) in straight sets.

West Hall visits West Forsyth on Monday.

North Hall girls 3, Gilmer 2

The team of Gay Anne Agnew and Rachel Langman and the team of Katherine Wessely and Anna Eades each won doubles matches in straight sets to give North Hall the edge Tuesday in Ellijay.

Jessica Butts won a singles match for North Hall (4-2, 2-0 Region 7A-AAA) in a tiebreaker in the third set.

North Hall plays host to Creekview at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall boys 4, Gilmer 1

Eli LoCicero and Mitch McCray each won singles matches for straight sets for the Trojans on Tuesday in Ellijay.

The team of Charlie Hortenstine and Michael Franze and the team of Scott Swanson and Isaac Black secured the win for North Hall (2-4, 2-0 Region 7A-AAA) in doubles.

North Hall plays host to Creekview at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
