The Gainesville High girls are moving on to the second round of the state championships, thanks to a thrilling come-from-behind 69-66 overtime victory over Hiram.
The Lady Red Elephants were down by eight points late in the fourth quarter, but made a run to tie it up and force overtime.
Taylor Hawks scored 25 points and Shikiya Brown added 19 to lead Gainesville to the overtime playoff win.
Gainesville (19-6) will travel to play Columbus High (23-5) on Friday. Tip time is yet to be determined.
DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 71, CALHOUN 54: The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 23-11 first quarter lead with the help of a strong press defense that was forcing turnovers.
Haley Burgess knocked down five 3-points en route to 19 points. Karlie Bearden had 17 points and Kaylee Sticker added 15. Erin Chatham and Eliza Sillesky both finished with eight points.
Dawson County (24-4) will play the winner of Laney/Central Macon in the second round of the state championships either Friday or Saturday. Tip time is yet to be determined.
Soccer
The Lakeview Academy girls soccer team won their first game of the season with a 4-0 win over North Hall Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Madison Smith set up by Reece Johnson.
Bree Bell, Carmen Wagner and Meredith Tucker each scored a goal in the second half.
Tucker, Wagner and Jackie Allen each had assists.
Lakeview Academy visits Stephens County 5 p.m. Thursday.
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 4, NORTH HALL 4: Lions’ goalkeeper Ben Eades had 15 saves Tuesday night at North Hall High.
Lakeview’s goals were scored by Andrew Miller Bell (2), Seth Munn and Raunaq Sharif. Lakeview Academy (0-0-1) visits Stephens County 7 p.m. Thursday.
EAST HALL BOYS 2, WHITE COUNTY 1: The Vikings were led by goal scorers Sergio Turcios and Maury Ibarra with assists by Turcios and Carlos Castrejon.
Leo Toledo did not play.
East Hall (3-0) visits Lakeview Academy on Friday.
WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 8, EAST HALL 0: Lady Vikings goalkeeper Mariana Hernandez had 12 saves Tuesday night.

Tennis
The Gainesville High boys tennis team won 3-2 at Clarke Central.
The winners for the Red Elephants were Reagan Williams at singles, and the doubles teams of Roan Thompson and Trevor Munn, as well as Thomas Carter and Max Wuest.
Gainesville visits Riverside Military Academy next Tuesday.
