High school scoreboard: Flowery Branch softball clinches postseason berth

The Flowery Branch softball team defeated Apalachee 4-2 at home Tuesday night to secure a postseason bid for the state tournament in Region 8-AAAAA.

Lady Falcons’ freshman third baseman Alexis Nixon had two hits and an RBI, senior Bailey Sims had an RBI and freshman pitcher Alyssa Kimbrell earned the save.

Flowery Branch (14-11, 7-3) begins tournament play next week with a best-of-three series against a region opponent.

GAINESVILLE 9, SALEM 6: Lady Red Elephants’ pitcher Aliyah Goss threw a complete game, allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts Tuesday night in Conyers.

Gainesville’s Kayla Montague, Whitney Ledford and Madison Oliver each had two hits and two RBIs.

Gainesville (10-14) starts play in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament Monday.

EAST HALL 4, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: Lady Vikings’ pitcher Steffanie Redmon threw a complete-game shutout on four hits and nine strikeouts Tuesday night in Dahlonega.

East Hall’s Allison Millwood had all four RBIs on two doubles. Logan Turner went 2 for 3 with two singles.

Lumpkin County pitcher Aly Jones threw a complete game, allowing four runs with two strikeouts and three walks.

East Hall hosts Franklin County 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

BUFORD 16, CHESTATEE 3: Buford’s Drew Puckett hit a grand slam as part of the Lady Wolves’ nine-run first inning Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Puckett went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

The Lady Wolves’ Katie Perkins went 1 for 2 with a two-run home run. Lea Edwards and Samantha Thomas both went 3 for 3 with an RBI, and Rebecca Wilson went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a double.

Buford pitcher Peyton Wolfe (11-0) went three innings, allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Buford (18-6, 6-1) hosts Madison County on Thursday.


The North Hall volleyball team defeated Madison County (25-14, 25-16) and Johnson (25-5, 25-14) Tuesday night at home.

The Lady Trojans’ Lily Paschall had 35 assists, Autumn Tucker had 17 kills and Makenzie Bryant had 15 digs.
North Hall next plays in the Hall County tournament Saturday.

JEFFERSON 3, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 1: The Lady Dragons won 25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-13 Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Jefferson’s Bre Arbanas had 13 kills, Abby Wood had 12 kills and 22 digs, Grace Haney had 18 assists, Madison Corbett had 30 assists and Olivia Przybysz had 26 digs.

WHITE COUNTY SPLITS: The Lady Warriors defeated Chestatee (21-25, 27-25, 25-17) and lost to Buford (25-5, 25-4) Tuesday night in Gainesville.

CHESTATEE GETS SWEPT: The Lady War Eagles lost to Buford (25-11, 25-2) and White County (21-25, 27-25, 25-17) Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Chestatee’s Maddie Woodard had 16 kills and eight digs, and Katie Allgood had 11 assists.

Chestatee next plays in the Hall County tournament Saturday.

JOHNSON LOSES TWICE: The Lady Knights lost to Madison County (25-18, 23-25, 25-14) and North Hall (25-5, 25-14) Tuesday night at home.

Johnson’s Brittany Barker had eight kills, and Grace Eidson had 13 assists. Barker, Eidson and Emma Hernandez each had 10 digs.

Johnson next plays in the Hall County tournament Saturday.
