Dawson County upsets East Hall in region semifinals

Gunnar Armstrong led Dawson County (22-6) with a team-high 19 points in a 71-59 win against East Hall (20-7) on Friday night in the Region 8-AA tournament semifinals at Hart County High. Bruce Clark added 14 points, Will Anglin scored 12 and Jonathan Sanderson finished with 10 for Dawson County.

J.C. Hampton led the Vikings with a game-high 30 points.

The Tigers led 31-27 at the end of the first half and kept the momentum by outscoring East Hall 40-32 in the second half.

Dawson County will play Jefferson at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Hartwell for the Region 8-AA championship, and East Hall faces Rabun County for third place at 5:30 p.m.

EAST HALL GIRLS 47, UNION COUNTY 38: Jasmine Jenkins led the Lady Vikings (24-3) with 15 points and Morgan Jackson added 14 Friday night in the Region 8-AA tournament semifinals at Hart County High.

Rebecka Merritt led the Panthers with a team-high 14 points.

Tied 7-7 after the first quarter, Union County took a 21-19 lead into halftime. The Lady Vikings took control of the game by outscoring Union County 17-9 in the third quarter.

East Hall faces North Oconee at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Region 8-AA tournament championship at Hart County.

JEFFERSON BOYS 81, RABUN COUNTY 75: Austin Thompson scored a team-high 22 points for the Dragons (19-8) Friday night in the Region 8-AA semifinals at Hart County High. Andre Daniel added 17 points, Will Puckett scored 15 and Fatchel Turpin finished with 10 for the Dragons. After trailing 43-41 at the end of the first half, the Dragons outscored the Wildcats 18-12 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Jefferson will play Dawson County at 8:30 p.m.Saturday in Hartwell for the Region 8-AA championship, and Rabun County plays East Hall for third place at 5:30 p.m.

BUFORD BOYS 61, SOUTH DECATUR 53: A.J. Davis led the Wolves (21-6) with 31 points and 10 rebounds Friday night in Decatur. T.J. Shipes added 12 points and eight rebounds for Buford.

The Wolves play the Decatur/Greater Atlanta Christian winner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the Region 6-AA Championship.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 34, PRAISE ACADEMY 30: Kayla Goodson led the Lady Chargers with a team-high 11 points Thursday night in Columbus in the ICSGA quarterfinals to advance to the 1-A state championship Saturday afternoon at Columbus State University. 

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 63, CLARKE CENTRAL 51: Marrissa Ivey led the Lady Falcons (20-8) with a team-high 19 points to finish third in the Region 8-AAAA tournament Friday afternoon in Loganville. Jacy Ramey finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals for Flowery Branch.

JOHNSON GIRLS 2, FORSYTH CENTRAL 1: Kaylyn Dumanowsky scored a goal early in the second half to score the game at 1-1. Ana Torres scored Johnson’s winning goal off an assist by Chandler Steele with under eight minutes left in the game.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 1, NORTH FORSYTH 0: Adrian Lagranda scored off an assist from Thomas Davis for the Falcons (1-2) Friday night in Cumming. Jonathan Beltran recorded 10 saves in the shutout for Flowery Branch.

The Falcons host Forsyth Central at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 3, NORTH FORSYTH 0: Julia Sienkiewicz scored the hat trick for the Lady Falcons Friday night in Cumming. Megan Kirk, Kayla Robles and Cassidy Elrod are all credited with assists.

Lauren Dunn recorded her third shutout of the season for Flowery Branch.

The Lady Flacons host Forsyth Central at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

WEST HALL GIRLS 4, WINDER-BARROW 1 (Thursday): Tania Perez led the Lady Spartans with two goals Thursday night in Winder. Idalia Avelar and Monica Suarez each added a goal for West Hall.

OCONEE COUNTY BOYS 5, JOHNSON 0: The Knights (0-3, 0-2 Region 8-AAA South) were shutout by the Warriors Friday afternoon in Watkinsville.

Johnson hosts Walnut Grove at 4 p.m. Tuesday
