High school scoreboard: Falcons hold off late rally

The Flowery Branch High baseball team picked up a region win by defeating West Hall 15-12 in a high-scoring contest Friday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex in Flowery Branch.

The Falcons (5-3, 4-3 Region 7-AAA) dissolved a three-run West Hall lead through three innings to tie the game at nine in the fifth inning, where they scored twice to take their first lead of the night.

Trailing by six in the seventh inning, the Spartans (5-3, 3-3) scored three runs to come within three, but saw their rally stop short when Flowery Branch threw out a runner at home plate for the final out of the game.

Matt Pilgrim picked up the win for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch plays host to Creekview at 6 p.m. Monday. West Hall plays host to Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Buford 6, Providence Christian 3

The Wolves won their third straight in a non-region contest Friday in Lilburn.

Hunter Cash was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Buford (5-3). Cameron Crawford and Jake Burnette each homered for the Wolves.

Andy Plott pitched five innings and struck out three for the win.

Buford visits Stephens County at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Dawson County 12, Riverside Military 9 (Thursday)

Will Huff led the Eagles with two home runs and a double on Thursday in Gainesville.

Brian Kerekes also homered and Ryan Osegueda was 3-for-4 for Riverside.

Riverside plays host to Rabun County at 5 p.m. Monday. Dawson County plays host to Union County at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

SOCCER

Lakeview Academy boys 3, Rabun County 2 2OT

Stephen Reynolds scored on a free kick with two minutes left to play in double overtime to give the Lions its first region win Friday in Hiawassee.

Grayson Ingram scored twice in regulation for Lakeview (4-3, 1-1 Region 8-A). Ausin White added an assist.

Lakeview plays host to Union County at 7 p.m. Monday.

GOLF

Gainesville girls finish eighth in tourney

The Lady Elephants scored 55 points using a Modified Stableford scoring system to finish eighth in a 17-team field in a tournament Friday at The Chimneys Golf Course in Winder.

Camryn Cole finished third individually for Gainesville.

Gainesville plays host to Johnson and Dawson County at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

TENNIS

Flowery Branch girls 5, East Hall 0 (Thursday)

Jennica Ramey, Megan Grewett and Morgan Ruiz each won in singles for the Lady Falcons on Thursday at East Hall Park.

The team of Nicki Price and Elizabeth Mallory and the team of Lindsey Shaw and Morgan Reed completed the sweep in doubles for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch plays host to Lakeview Academy at 4 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy boys 5, Woody Gap 0 (Thursday)

Due to a forfeit by Woody Gap prior to the match, exhibition matches were played, which the Lions swept on Thursday in Gainesville.

Kollin Smith, Reid Atherton, Todd Williams and the doubles team of Jarrod Beck and Trey Cox each won for Lakeview.

Lakeview visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy girls 5, Woody Gap 0 (Thursday)

The Lady Lions played exhibition matches after Woody Gap forfeited their matches Thursday in Gainesville.

Megan Cole and the team of Cree Nix and Komal Patel each won for the Lakeview.

Lakeview visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Monday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Riverside wins road meet (Thursday)

The Eagles scored 77 points, ahead of North Oconee’s 50 Banks County’s 37 in a meet on Thursday at North Oconee High in Bogart.

Marlon Veazie picked up wins in 100-meter and 200 for Riverside. Hyung Oh finished first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Aaron Gambrah finished first the discus and second in the shot put. The Eagles also won 4x100.

Second place finishes for Riverside were Zach Anderson in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Victor Frick in the 100, Brad Baker in the 400, Chris White in the 800, Andrian Quinones in the triple jump and 4x400 team.

First place finishes for Banks County were Maggie McCoy in the 3200, Vishal Patel in the 800, Justin Beasley in the long jump, and the 4x400 team.

Second place finishes for Banks County were Ivan Diaz in the 3200 and 1600 and Justin Beasley in the 200.

Riverside plays host to Tallulah Falls at 4:30 p.m. March 25.
