High school scoreboard: East Hall rallies past Buford

The East Hall boys basketball team rallied to defeat Buford 79-74 on Saturday in the Achasta Christmas tournament at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

Down by 20 in the third quarter, the Vikings (5-3) came from behind by outscoring the Wolves 33-14 in the fourth quarter.

“That’s one of the most amazing comebacks we’ve had since I’ve coached here at East Hall,” Vikings coach Joe Dix said.

J.C. Hampton led the Vikings with 17 points and Charles Perry added 16.

T.J. Shipes, a sophomore, led the Wolves (2-2) with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Kyle Kellam had 19 and Jake Burnette finished with 16.

East Hall faces the defending Class AAAA state champs from South Carolina, Goose Creek High, in the Roundball Classic at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 28 in Charleston, S.C. Buford returns to action against Alexander in the Pickens New Years tournament on Dec. 29 in Jasper.

BUFORD GIRLS 60, EAST HALL 45: The Buford High girls moved to 2-0 in the Achasta Christmas tournament and 4-0 on the season with a win against East Hall on Saturday at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

Andraya Carter scored 19 to lead Class AA’s top-ranked Buford. Alysha Rudnik added 12 points for the Lady Wolves.

Audrianna Lindsey led the Lady Vikings (5-3) with nine points. East Hall returns to the court in the McDonald’s Shootout on Dec. 28 at Hart County High.

LAKEVIEW GIRLS 46, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 29: Maddie Haymore scored 13 for the Lady Lions (5-4) and Megan Rochester added 10 on Saturday in Gainesville. Lakeview Academy took control of the game by outscoring Hebron 19-4 in the third quarter.
Lakeview Academy visits Aquinas on Jan. 2 in Augusta.

LAKEVIEW BOYS 102, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 51: The Lions finished with six different scorers in double digits on Saturday in Gainesville. Daniel Olvera scored a game-high 19 for Lakeview (2-6, 1-1 Region 8-A).

Austin Montgomery and Jordan Chastain each finished with 13 for the Lions, while Matt Askounis and Austin Pearson each finished with 12 points.

Lakeview visits Aquinas on Jan. 2 in Augusta.

NORTH HALL BOYS 72, WESLEYAN 65: Chris Barnes finished with 25 points for the Trojans (7-2) at North Georgia College & State University on Saturday in Dahlonega. Kanler Coker added 17 and Trevor Ross finished with seven points for North Hall.

CREEKVIEW GIRLS 48, WEST HALL 33: Bailey Soucie hit four 3-pointers to account for all of her team-high 12 points on Saturday in Oakwood. Amber Johnson scored 10 for the Lady Spartans.

WEST HALL BOYS 68, CREEKVIEW 47: Jarquise Young led the Spartans with 20 points and Shunquez Stephens added 13 for the Spartans on Saturday in Oakwood. Dre Pou added 10 for West Hall (8-3).

JACKSON COUNTY GIRLS 62, EAST JACKSON 42: Breanna Drew, a junior, finished with 25 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Panthers (9-2) on Saturday in Jefferson.

DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 39, EAST JACKSON 38: Morgan Bennett had 13 points (three 3-pointers) and a rebound for the Lady Tigers (8-4) on Friday in Commerce.

PICKENS GIRLS 49, GILMER 35: Jazmine Goss led the Lady Dragons (7-2) with 16 points and Megan Womack added nine on Friday in Ellijay.

CHESTATEE EARNS THIRD AT TOURNEY:
The War Eagles picked up wins against Stephens County (78-0), Westside-Augusta (63-9), Cedar Shoals (1-0), Madison County (42-37) and lost to Commerce (50-12) to capture third place at the Red Raider Rumble on Saturday at Madison County.

Jose Reyes (103 pounds), Cody Etris (135) and G. Casas (189) each finished with four pins for Chesatee. J.W. Gilbert (112), Aaron Verduco (130) and Daniel Moreno (160) each finished with three pins for the War Eagles. With two pins each for Chestatee were Zach Chadwick (119), Brock White (125), Jorge Ramos (140), Taylor White (152), Orlando Carbajal (171) and Ed Villeda (215).

TROJANS FINISH SIXTH AT LAMBERT: The North Hall High wrestling team finished sixth overall out of 13 teams in the Longhorn Hook ‘Em Holiday Classic on Saturday in Suwanee. The Trojans finished with seven placers. Tyler Kratzer (119 pounds) and Colby McClain (215) each earned second place for North Hall. Wesley Adams (130) and Lee Sisson (189) both placed third for the Trojans.

WEST HALL FINISHES THIRD: Tanner Yates (125 pounds) finished first overall and led the Spartans on Saturday in an individual tourney with 13 teams involved. Logan Herford (135) placed second for West Hall. Justin Byrne (130) and Chris Price (189) both finished third for the Spartans.

EAST HALL WRESTLES AT JOHN SMITH: The Vikings finished with seven placers at the John Smith Mountain Classic on Saturday at Lumpkin County High in Dahlonega. Luis Melendez finished second for East Hall, Juan Cruz placed fourth, and Christopher Ingram and Carlos Negron each placed fifth for the Vikings.

Ariel Negron, Cristian Vergara and Keon Jackson all finished sixth overall for the Vikings.
