North Hall boys fall to Swainsboro at Philips Arena

The North Hall boys basketball team trailed by 10 at the end of the third quarter and couldn’t rally back in a 61-59 loss to Swainsboro at Philips Arena in Atlanta on Friday.

Chris Barnes had a team-high 12 points for the second-ranked Trojans (4-1), while Ethan Smith and Lance White each added 11.

North Hall went 5-for-32 from behind the 3-point line in the loss.

The Trojans face Lakeview Academy at 8 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament at Chestatee.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 61, SWAINSBORO 40: Mary Kate Rushton scored 18 points in the second half to lead the Lady Trojans to the win Friday at Philips Arena in Atlanta. McKenna Rushton added 11 points and 11 rebounds for North Hall (2-3).

Mary Kate Rushton finished with 27 points for the Lady Trojans, who play West Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament at Chestatee.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 63, CHESTATEE 40: Four Falcons scored in double digits Friday in Flowery Branch. Craig Wright led Flowery Branch with 13 points and James Hodges added 12. Rudy DeAza (11) and Marquise Wise (10) also scored in double figures. For Chestatee, Keelan Passmore scored a game-high 16 points.

Flowery Branch (2-3) faces Johnson at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the opening round of the Lanierland tournament at Chestatee.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 49, FRANKLIN COUNTY 46:
A.J. Johnson’s free throw with 7 seconds left pushed the score to its final margin as the Red Elephants moved to 6-2 on the season. Deshaun Watson and Javez Warren each scored 11 for Gainesville, and Franklin County’s Drew Parten led all scorers with 15 points.

Gainesville plays West Hall at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lanierland Tournament at Chestatee.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 39, FLOWERY BRANCH 18: Peyton Robertson scored 27 points and added five rebounds for the Lady War Eagles in the win Friday in Flowery Branch. The Lady Falcons didn’t score their first basket until the second quarter in the loss.

Class AAA’s No. 3 Chestatee (6-0), faces Jefferson at 9 a.m. Monday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament at Chestatee. Flowery Branch faces Gainesville at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the first round of Lanierland.

OCONEE COUNTY GIRLS 60, WEST HALL 51 (OT): The Lady Spartans were outscored 15-6 in overtime in the loss Friday in Oakwood.

Amber Johnson scored 23 points, including going 7-for-7 from the free throw line, to lead West Hall (4-6, 0-1 Region 8B-AAA).

Jessica Dambach added 13 points for the Lady Spartans, who open play in the Lanierland Tournament against North Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Chestatee.

WEST HALL BOYS 62, OCONEE COUNTY 48:
The Spartans led 21-5 after the first quarter and kept control of the game on Friday in Oakwood. Jarquise Young led the Spartans with 18 points and Shunquez Stephens added 17. West Hall faces Gainesville at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament at Chestatee.

TABERNACLE CHRISTIAN 52, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 48: Zach Pendley scored a game-high 18 points and Clay Cox added 10 for the Chargers (9-4) on Friday in the Southern States Christian Classic in Suwannee.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 70, TRINITY CHAPEL 26: Byron Wilkinson led the Chargers with 12 points and Trey Loggins scored 10 in a big win on Friday. North Georgia Christian faces Jubilee Christian at 10:30 today in Suwannee.

TOWNS COUNTY GIRLS 56, UNION COUNTY 43: Jordan Moss scored 17 points on Friday for Towns County and the Indians moved to 8-0 on the season. Angie Hughes scored 16 and Katie Tanner added 13 for the Panthers (4-3), who play Hawk’s Bluff (Ala.) at 4 p.m. Dec. 26 in the Battle of the States Tournament in Hiawassee.

UNION COUNTY BOYS 40, TOWNS COUNTY 36: Trey Thomas led Union County with 12 points on Friday in Blairsville. Leading scorers for Towns County were Bradley Swanson with 16 and D.J. Rogers with 10.

Union County faces Polk County (Tenn.) at 5:30 p..m. Dec. 26 in the Battle of the States Tournament in Hiawassee.

PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN GIRLS 52, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 33: Jamie Nixon and Molly Gay each scored six points for the Lady Lions on Friday in Gainesville.

PROVIDENCE BOYS 76, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 60:
Austin Pearson scored a team-high 22 points for the Lions on Friday in Gainesville. Jackson Wells added 15 points for Lakeview, which faces North Hall in the opening round of the Lanierland Tournament at 8 p.m. Monday.

WRESTLING
WEST HALL OPENS SANTA SLAM: Tanner Yates and Logan Herford both finished the first day of wrestling in the Santa Slam in first place at South Forsyth High in Cumming. Laykin Herford (103), Diego Sepulveda (119), Dorsey Raiford (125), Yates (140), Logan Herford (152) and Julio Chavez (215) all recorded pins for West Hall.
