Buford’s Rebecca Wilson had four strikeouts as the winning pitcher in Tuesday’s 8-1 Region 8-AAAAA tournament win against Flowery Branch.
Wilson was also 2 for 3 with a first-inning double, four RBIs and a run scored for the Lady Wolves. Teammates Arielle Oda went 3 for 4 from the plate with two runs scored. Shea Bayreuther was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
WEST HALL SPLITS AREA 7-AAAA TOURNAMENT TRI-MATCH WITH MARIST AND CHESTATEE: West Hall fell to Marist in straight sets 25-4, 25-10, before rebounding with straight-set (25-21, 25-17) victory over Chestatee.
Cadie Shirley led the Lady Spartans’ attack with five kills. Also for the Lady Spartans, Ruby Guerrero contributed three aces. Reagan Horton led with 10 digs, while Makayla Courson dished six assists in the attack. Anna Kate Clark contributed to the defense with a block.
West Hall’s win over Chestatee gives the Lady Spartans a spot in the Class AAAA Tournament. West Hall plays White County on Thursday for the third seed.
NORTH HALL WINS FIRST MATCH IN REGION TOURNEY: North Hall’s Melissa DeVerter led the attack with 11 kills, a block, and three digs in a 25-10, 25-12 win against Dawson County to open the Area 7-AAA tournament Tuesday.
Lily Paschall finished the night with 20 assists, three aces, and two kills for the Lady Trojans. North Hall’s (26-15, 5-0 Area 7-AAA) Madison Brock totaled five kills, while Savannah Miller finished with four kills. Autumn Tucker contributed two kills with 10 digs, and Lena Strickland had eight digs for For the Lady Trojans.
North Hall continues Area 7-AAA tournament play on Thursday.
GAINESVILLE SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Gainesville’s Sydney King led the Lady Red Elephants with 27 digs in a tri-match sweep of Dacula and Habersham Central Tuesday night in Mount Airy.
The Lady Red Elephants defeated Dacula 2-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19), before besting the Lady Raiders in straight sets 25-15, 28-26. Lady Red Elephant’s Savannah Roys racked up 46 assists, four assists, four aces, 12 digs, and four blocks. Abby Alexander led the attack with 14 kills, three aces and five blocks, while Tangi Miller finished the night with 12 kills and two blocks behind Alexander. Cori Griffith totalled 11 kills with two blocks.
Gainesville (28-18, 7-3 Area 8-AAAAAA) travels to Lanier Thursday for the Area 8-AAAAAA tournament in Sugar Hill.
