High School Scoreboard: Buford softball wins 16-1 over Cedar Shoals on senior night

Buford’s Chandler Wright pitched three innings, allowed two hits, one run and recorded four strikeouts on senior night in a 16-1 win over Region 8-AAAAA Cedar Shoals on Thursday. Lady Wolves’ (18-1, 6-0 Region 8-AAAAA) Katrina Herring was 1 for 2 with three RBIs, while Arielle Oda finished the night 1 for 2 with three RBIs and a run. Lady Wolf Rebecca Wilson was 1 for 2 with two RBIs with two runs scored. Buford’s Shea Bayreuther was 1 for 1 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two runs scores.

The senior class is 121-9 overall in its four years and has only lost one game at home.

Buford continues play in the Ram Classic at 11 a.m. against East Coweta in Liburn Saturday.

Volleyball

JOHNSON WINS TRI-MATCH AGAINST LAKEVIEW AND WEST HALL: Johnson’s Grace Eidson totaled five aces, 19 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs Thursday night. The Lady Knights played their first match against Lakeview winning in two sets (25-13, 25-23). Johnson won in the same fashion against West Hall (25-16, 25-17). Lady Knight Brittany Barker contributed to the offense with 10 kills. Johnson’s (17-11, 3-2 Region 8-AAAAA) Emma Hernandez finished the night with eight aces, 15 kills and three blocks. Alivia Farley helped the offense with eight aces, 10 kills and 12 assists, while she contributed 16 digs on defense. Julia Bowers racked up 21 digs and four aces.

Johnson plays at 9 a.m. at the Hall County Tournament in Gainesville on Saturday.

FLOWERY BRANCH 3, PRINCE AVENUE 1: Flowery Branch’s Jena Killian posted 10 kills, two blocks and an assist in a Lady Branch victory against the Lady Wolverines (25-22, 25-27, 27-25, 25-15). Lady Falcon Kylie McGuire racked up 20 assists for the offense. Flowery Branch’s (18-5, 1-3 Region 8-AAAAA) Anna Marshall finished the night with seven kills, two blocks, an assists and an ace.

Flowery Branch plays at 9 a.m. at the Hall County Tournament in Gainesville Saturday.
