High school scoreboard: Buford girls win big in Deep South Classic

Blanche Alverson led the Lady Wolves (5-1, 1-0 Region 6-AA) with 17 points in the Deep South Classic on Saturday at Brookwood High in Snellville. Andraya Carter and Chanee Carson each added 12 for Buford.

The Lady Wolves led 29-9 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 52-13 at halftime.

Buford faces the Loganville/Brookwood winner at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the second round of the Deep South Classic at Brookwood.

North Forsyth boys 63
Lumpkin County 61 2OT

E.J. Young scored 21 and Shawn Chapman added 17 for the Indians (5-3) against Class AAAAA’s North Forsyth on Saturday at the Forsyth Central tournament in Cumming. Austin Tolbert added 11 for Lumpkin County.

David Sanders (13) and Chris Smith (11) led North Forsyth in scoring.

Lumpkin County faces Forsyth Central in the next round of the Forsyth Central tournament at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in Cumming.

Flowery Branch boys 60
Marietta 50

Josh Barrett scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Falcons to a win in the first round of the Campbell Holiday Classic on Saturday in Smyrna.

Ishmael Hollis scored 12 points and Brian Welchel added 10 for Flowery Branch (4-1).

Marietta was led by Chris Tanzy, who scored 12 points.

Flowery Branch will play MLK at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the second round of the tournament.

Jefferson boys 61
Sevier County (Tenn.) 56

Darius Minor recorded a double-double (27 points, 11 rebounds) to lead the Dragons to a win Saturday at the Warrior Christmas Classic at Oconee County High School.

Tab Martin chipped in 11 points for Jefferson (5-2).

Sevier County was led by Kurt Benjamin, who scored 25 points.

Jefferson will play the winner of the Prince Avenue Christian/Oconee County game at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
