Buford rolls past West Hall in Region 7-AAA softball opener

Buford’s Remington Hasty led the Lady Wolves to a 12-0 win in their region opener with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning against West Hall on Monday in Oakwood.

Bria Bush picked up the win from the circle for the Lady Wolves (10-0, 1-0 Region 8-AAA), recording six strikeouts without allowing a hit in two innings. Freshman Peyton Wolfe pitched the final three innings in relief for Buford with a pair of strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Sydney Stavro went 1 for 4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base for Buford, and Jazmin Hawkins was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Bush also contributed at the plate with an RBI double in her only at-bat.

The Lady Wolves return to action with another region game against Fannin County on Thursday in Buford.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 9, RABUN COUNTY 1: Lumpkin County’s Ashley Brown had the complete-game shutout for the Lady Indians (9-3, 2-0 in Region 8-AAAA) with five strikeouts in five innings on Monday in Dahlonega.

Morgan Wood led Lumpkin County at the plate with a two-run home run in the first inning. Taylor Turk added an RBI single for the Lady Indians.

Lumpkin County travels to Eastside for another region game on Tuesday in Covington.

West Hall fell to Gilmer (25-21, 25-21) and Jefferson (25-21, 25-21) in straight sets on Monday in Oakwood.
Laykin Herford led the Lady Spartans (8-3) with 21 assists and three aces. LeNiesha Kearse had 11 blocks and three digs for West Hall, and Carrie Ruis had 10 kills and eight digs.

The Lady Spartans return to action against South Gwinnett and Archer on Thursday in Snellville.

Cross Country
The North Georgia Christian School cross country teams opened their 2012 season against 10 other schools in the Loganville Christian Academy Invitational in Loganville on Saturday. The top finishers for the Chargers were David Thome and Nicole Ball, who both placed 11th overall in the boys and girls runs, respectively.
