The East Hall volleyball team’s school-record 14-game winning streak came to end after losing three of four matches a play date Saturday at Lumpkin County High in Dahlonega.

East Hall defeated Gilmer in straight sets before falling to Lakeview Academy, North Forsyth and Heritage-Catoosa.

Tarryn Long recorded 20 points on the serve with 12 aces. She also had 31 kills, two assists, three blocks and 18 digs. Kara Hix had 67 digs, one ace, two kills and four assists. Ashleigh Burnett recorded one ace, four kills and nine digs. Cassida Shockley totaled 29 assists, along with 12 digs and four kills. Jessica Chmiel had 12 digs, three kills and one block. Emily Roberts tallied 11 kills, three aces, four blocks and four digs, Savannah Lindsey had 14 digs, Clarissa Flores had an ace and five digs and Monica Dominguez had one ace, eight assists and six digs.

East Hall (14-3) visits Gilmer on Tuesday for matches against Gilmer and West Hall.

BUFORD WINS THREE: The Lady Wolves defeated Flowery Branch 25-11, 25-19, Mountain View 25-23, 25-15 and West Forsyth 23-25, 25-9, 15-6 to win three of four matches at a play date Saturday at Brookwood High in Snellville.

Buford (7-4) also lost to Johns Creek 26-24, 19-25, 11-15.

Maggie Roper led the Lady Wolves with 31 kills, 23 digs, five aces and five blocks. Gabby Curry recorded 24 kills, 21 digs and three aces. Bree Horrocks had 11 kills and three blocks, and Amanda Hopkins tallied six kills, 11 digs and six blocks.

Defensively, Mikhayla Riegel recorded 21 digs. Morgan Mitchell tallied 46 assists and Myra Sanchez notched 29 assists.

Buford visits North Gwinnett on Tuesday.

JEFFERSON SWEEPS HOME MEET: The Lady Dragons defeated all five opponents it faced in a six-team home play date on Saturday in Jefferson.

Jefferson defeated East Jackson 25-12, 25-19, Athens Christian 25-11, 25-15, Winder-Barrow 25-17, 25-13, Rabun County 26-24, 25-5 and Chestatee 25-18, 23-25, 15-7.

Grace Williamson led the Lady Dragons with 26 aces, 22 kills and 23 digs. Bre Arbanas had 18 aces, Lindsey Nilsen recorded 23 kills, Madison Corbett collected 36 assists and Paige Watson tallied 39 assists. Olivia Przybysz led Jefferson in digs, with 18.

LAKEVIEW WINS TWO OF THREE: The Lady Lions defeated Heritage 23-25, 25-21, 15-11 and East Hall 25-12, 23-25, 15-11 before falling to Gilmer 25-18, 25-20 during Saturday’s play date at Lumpkin County High in Dahlonega.

Katie White led Lakeview with 21 kills, 18 digs and 4 aces. Shelby Ross recorded 13 kills, 11 digs and 7 aces. Bailey Towles had 26 assists and Delaney Jarrett added 18 assists. Samantha Versteeg had 28 digs, and Katie Gay chipped in 8 kills and 3 aces.

The Lady Lions host Georgia Walton Academy and Tallulah Falls on Tuesday.

JOHNSON ENTERS THE WIN COLUMN: The Lady Knights won their first two matches of the season with a 25-22, 25-16 win over Pickens and a 25-18, 25-15 victory over Heritage on Saturday at Lumpkin County on Saturday in Dahlonega.

Johnson (2-8) also lost 14-25, 25-22, 8-15 to Southeast Whitfield and 25-16, 26-16 Lumpkin County.

Against Heritage, Balenger recorded four kills and three aces. She also led Johnson with four kills against Southeast Whitfield, while McDonald totaled four kills and Kasey Gravitt notched three digs.
Johnson returns to Lumpkin County on Tuesday.


BUFORD WINS ON WALK-OFF: Jordan Deep hit a two-run walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Buford to a 3-2 win over Greenbrier on Saturday at the University of North Georgia Dahlonega.

Deep ripped the double in a two-out situation with the bases loaded. The clutch hit keeps the Lady Wolves unbeaten on the season with a 7-0 record.

Deep finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tessa Daniel was 2 for 3, Morgan Walters was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Sydney Stavro was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Bria Bush pitched a complete game to earn the win on the mound, striking out six hitters with five hits and one earned run allowed.

Buford opened the day with a 10-5 win over Walnut Grove, which featured Daniels recording a win with five strikeouts in 3 1/2 innings of work while going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBIs.

Walters belted a two-run home run in the game, Stavro was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Remington Hasty batted in two runners.

Buford hosts Allatoona at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

JEFFERSON SPLITS AT FLOWERY BRANCH: The Lady Dragons defeated Gilmer 13-2 in five innings and lost Flowery Branch 3-0 on Saturday in Flowery Branch.

All but one Lady Dragon batter recorded a hit against Gilmer, including a 3-for-4, six-RBI performance by Savannah Snapp. Emily Duff, Erin Jackson, Olivia Husted, Maegan Faulkner and Raegan Sandy each recorded two hits. Caitlin Cantrell pitched a complete for the win.

Flowery Branch’s Jessica Thomas pitched a complete-game shutout against Jefferson, stiking out four and giving up four hits. Lily Parks and Megan Prichard each had a hit an RBI.

For Jefferson (5-3), Husted gave up one earned run and struck out six in six innings of work.

Cross Country

CHESTATEE BOYS PLACE SEVENTH: Jason Dang recorded an 11th-place time of 17 minutes, 37.02 seconds to lead the War Eagles to a seventh-place finish in the 20-team Pickens Preview Invitational on Saturday in Jasper.

Jack Carnes and, Ivan Martin and Logan Brock all ran under 19 minutes for Chestatee.

The Lady War Eagles, ranked fourth in the Class AAAA, finished 11th in the girls standings. Magee Wilson was 13th overall with a time of 21:00.85.

Chestatee visits Union County on Thursday.

LAKEVIEW BOYS FINISH FOURTH IN ATHENS: Dustin Snyder placed second overall with a time of 17:32 to lead the Lions to an fourth-place finish at Athens Christian on Saturday in Athens.

Teammate Lewis Brooks finish third with 17:53, followed by Dalton Snyder in sixth with 18:09.
