Chestatee cross country wins at home

The Chestatee High girls cross country team took the first five places in a dual meet against Johnson on Thursday at Chestatee Middle School.

Chestatee's Sarah Beth English placed first overall with a time of 22 minutes, 27 seconds on the War Eagles course. Paige Williams, Shelby Bennett, Yaritiza Carrillo and Elaine Miklos rounded out the field for the Lady War Eagles.

Cynthia Pham placed sixth for the Lady Knights.

The Chestatee boys took first place in a tri-meet, edging out Lakeview Academy by four points. Johnson placed third.

Lakeview's Dalton Snyder was first overall with a time of 18:35. The Lions took second also as Lewis Brooks finished at 19:09.

Chestatee's Jeremy Gross and Jose Reyes took third and fourth respectively with Gross finishing at 19:10 and Reyes at 19:17.

SOFTBALL
LUMPKIN COUNTY 10, WEST HALL 2:
Ashley Brown pitched five innings, had five strikeouts and two walks to lead the Lady Indians to a victory Thursday night in Dahlonega.

Lumpkin County (5-3, 2-0 Region 8-AAA) hosts Lanier on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. in Dahlonega.

Brown was also the winning pitcher on Tuesday night when the Lady Indians beat North Hall 7-4.

JEFFERSON 4, HART COUNTY 2: Savannah Snapp was the winning pitcher for Jefferson (3-5, 1-1 Region 8-AA) with six strikeouts and no walks allowed on Thursday.

Jordyn Whitfield went 3 for 4 and had two RBIs for the Lady Dragons.

Jefferson plays Oconee County at 4 p.m. and face Collins Hill at 6 p.m. in the 2011 Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Friday in Hoschton.

VOLLEYBALL
WEST HALL WINS TRI-MATCH AT EAST JACKSON:
The Lady Spartans had wins against East Hall 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 and against East Jackson 25-8, 25-19 on Thursday in Commerce.

For the night, Stephanie Rowland led the West Hall with 17 kills, and Tonya Bennett added 12 kills. Laykin Herford had 30 assists and Carrie Ruis had eight digs in two matches.

The Lady Vikings (6-3, 1-0 Region 8-AA) won their first match of the night against East Jackson to win their opening region game 25-23, 25-13.

Kara Hicks had 10 aces, one kill, five digs and two assists for East Hall. Brittney Cambell tallied five kills, 16 assists and four digs in two matches for the Lady Vikings.

West Hall hosts East Hall, Johnson, and Jackson County at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS HOME OPENER: Britanny Hill had six kills for Flowery Branch (1-4, 1-0 Region 8-AAAA) in a loss against Lambert 25-15, 25-13 on Thursday.

In the second match, the Lady Falcons defeated Apalachee in their first region match. Kenzie Grewett had nine assists with her three aces to lead Flowery Branch to victory.

Amber Merchant tallied four kills and two aces against the Lady Wildcats.

Flowery Branch faces North Forsyth at 5 p.m. and Cedar Shoals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

JOHNSON EDGES LUMPKIN COUNTY: With eight digs and four aces, Lindsey Anderson led the Lady Knights over Lumpkin County 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 on Thursday.

Sophia love had five aces and 12 assists for Johnson.

RED ELEPHANTS WIN FIRST MATCH: Gainesville defeated Tallulah Falls in the opening match of the season for the Red Elephants 25-4, 25-18 in Tallulah Falls on Thursday.

Carmen Rae Torrey led Gainesville in assists with 16.

Anna Walker added six aces, one kill, and seven digs.

The Red Elephants (1-0) host Rabun County and Lakeview Academy at 5 p.m. on Monday.

BUFORD TAKES TWO AT TRI-MATCH: Buford beat Pinecrest Academy 27-25, 25-15, and South Forsyth 20-25, 25-23, 25-20 on Thursday.

Maggie Roper had 15 kills, 18 digs, and four blocks on the night for the Lady Wolves.

Buford's Jessica Falletta recorded 12 digs, eight aces, and six kills.

The Lady Wolves face Collins Hill, and Sequoyah at John's Creek at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
